Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
Interesting approach, it comes with and without PM5. When it is without, it can use ErgData as a screen...
Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
I want one!!!
Measurement is the key to improvement. There are six-figure-price strength machines that measure your force, but this ($1350 without PM5; $1500 with) will be affordable.

Right now I hate my strength training. Maybe this device would make me look forward to it.

Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
hmm being Concept its going to be interesting to see one of these. I like the hint that it may produce up to a 1500 lb leg press equivalent.
They have now incorporated something for the chest within a machine as well, that was good to see.

Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
Hello
Personally, I saw the Concept 2 Bike Erg as a design fail in that it does not train multiple muscle groups and therefore did not fit well into the Concept 2 range IMHO
But the Strength Erg does
And frankly I think it's about time. We like Concept 2 for its simple and reliable design, but the company can hardly be described as innovative until now.
The Strength Erg may be a turning point

Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
Interesting, had not heard about this before. A reinvention of the Dyno (?)
Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
It was designed to emulate a road bike. It is pretty good at that, and I appreciate it. All the ergs (prior to strength erg) are basically cardio machines. They all allow you pretty easily to recruit enough muscles to reach and exceed your VO2 max.Dave Neve wrote: ↑October 19th, 2024, 4:26 amHello

Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
It looks like the StrengthErg does not provide a "pull" exercise for legs ... but I guess you can still use your RowErg for hamstring rollouts (and abs rollouts).
Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
Hello gvcormac and all
I wonder if an attachment could provide that. For instance, there are no footstraps but if there were, the platform could be pulled towards the user perhaps as well as pushed away.
But the prototype looks ready to roll out and it does not have this as you rightly point out.

Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
Hello
Interesting video about the Strength Erg and the former Concept Dyno (which I had never even heard of)
The thing in the video about concentric and eccentric movements is very important and it's put a damper (pardon the pun ) on my desire to buy a Strength Erg

Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
A very useful insight here, I had never seen the Dyno... The whole concept (excuse my pun) just seems a little odd to me. The same can be achieved with a cheap dumbbell set up, arguably being more 'functional' (I hate to use this term) and taking up much less space.Dave Neve wrote: ↑October 20th, 2024, 6:18 amHello

To market itself as improving strength for muscles we use in rowing doesn't wash for me, I can't see many on the water rowers and erg'ers canceling their gym membership for one of these.

Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
You even don't need a set of dumbells, you only need your body and something to hang from and can get a much better workout with more variety in.
The strength erg is nothing for me, too limited in its possibilities at all (saying that without trying it).

Re: Concept 2 Strength Erg
The main advantage is that you can push or pull as hard as you possibly can -- like with a grip strength gauge.alex9026 wrote: ↑October 20th, 2024, 9:41 am

With weights or bodyweight or resistance bands, you pre-calculate a weight that you can handle, and leave a bit of a safety margin.
So with the strengtherg you can see how strong you are, and you can tax your strength to the limit.
The motivation is similar to the one that draws me to the ergs: quantitative measurement, incremental progress.
I'll have to ponder the eccentric issue. It was generally my impression that eccentric let you deal with heavier loads, not that it was beneficial per se over concentric. But there is a lot of literature on this that I haven't yet read.
