Mostly I do 1 hour and 10 K. pieces, but when I feel up to it I row HM and M. (good for the Row Pros total K.!!).

When I finished a M. it feels good! But a M. is still a challenge

Hennie
I think his PB has come down about 8 or 9 minutes over the last few months.

I also notched a new marathon PB yesterday - 2:57:50.7, down from 3:03:43.3. I rowed the last 1/4 a couple of seconds/500m faster than the rest of the piece, so I could probably do a little better overall with even pacing. I wanted it to be over as soon as possible once I hit the 3/4 point! New PBs at the 3 longest events in the last week or two, time to see if I can lower my scores on the middle distance pieces now.

My favorite part of the marathon is stopping at the end

Bill

I think I need to join the half of 16k in half the time club before I set my sights on 16k.

Don't forget to update your nonathlon score!

Bill

A few things. I've been doing more longer rows, usually an hour a day during the week and longer on the weekends plus some cross training. I've been trying to build up base and endurance.

I've also been doing a ton of strapless rowing. In fact, I seem to only row with straps when I race. This has improved my technique and forced me to use my legs more.

I've also been doing some longish intervals. Well I don't know if intervals the correct term. I would increase my pace to around 1:50-1:48 and keep my SPM around 23-25. I do this for between 3 & 5 minutes depending on my fatigue level. While this was sub maximal, it was just faster than what I figured I could do for the whole hour. This way I was getting used to that kind of pace and lower stroke rate. Note - this was all strapless.

Finally I did a practice hour where I went at the speed I thought I needed to go to break 16K. I did 10K at that speed then rested for a couple of K and then finished up at the speed. That gave me a good indicater of where I was fitness wise.

Basically I'm just trying to apply all the training techniques I learned as a cyclist and apply them to rowing. It seems to be working so far.

Other than that, I've just been racing on RowPro for speed work.

Jeff

Congratulations, so the 5K PB did not hurt you after all.
