First couple erg sessions since April. Time to get going again. Spent the summer trying a variety of different things. Overall fitness is ok but some drop off.
Welcome back Vic
Thanks. Looking forward to getting back at it.

It was supposed to be a rest day, but a 04:30 dog wake up bark changed that plan. Then it was supposed to be a 5k walk with Dangerspouse, but the heavy rain changed that too. So I decided to make some use of the early wake up.

Good to see the usual folk in here still getting after it. Not much Erg'ing for me of late, clocked a couple of 8k+ 30r20's and a couple of sprint based sessions post lifting. Today's work as follows:
3k 10:50.0 1:48.3 r20
3:00
2k 7:07.4 1:46.8 r20
2:00
1k 3:29.9 1:44.9 r20
Total:
6k 21:27 1:47 r20

Enjoyed this, comfortably hard whilst leaving a little in the tank. Some life stresses and this darn issue with my calf/foot has thrown a spanner in the works and that enthusiasm I had took a rapid decline.

Bit of a tangent but I train, whether it be on my bike/erg/lifting weights because I enjoy it, and the hard work that goes with it, but that part should be on my terms. The moment I start letting my life try fit around it, rather than the other way round, I know I'm heading down a slippery slope. I don't respond well to losing weight and I've been down this road before.

Having Bluetooth connectivity issues is a good excuse to just hop on and do what I fancy on the day, no technology and online logbooks or seeking external validation (absolutely nothing wrong with this!). I've mentioned before about missing a competitive element in my life but if I'm being really honest with myself, I probably don't. That's not to say I won't in six, twelve, eighteen months down the line... but right now, I couldn't think of anything worse than a 2k specific prep ahead of BRIC. If I wasn't a bleeding 5 hour drive away I'd certainly come and watch, mind.

Looking to get sub 38 before the end of the season and think r27/28 should get me there quite comfortably.

Very humid today and made the session very sweaty.

It was definitely a very rare session, but I knew I would regret it later on this week if I didn't do something like this, not least as there's no possibility that I'd be able to get back to sleep.

Either due to the slightly higher humidity or my world class ability to sweat, I still managed to have a few beads of sweat on my brow. It was planned as being a similar effort to replace the brisk 5k walk.

Abdominals a little sore so opting to avoid the erg today. Did a 90 minute mountain bike spin with the dog. Great trail dog did nearly 14 miles of leading out our group.

10/17 - 40 rounds of 3 Pull-Ups, 6 Push-Ups, 6 Walking Lunges (per leg), 1 round of 5 Pull-Ups, 10 Push-Ups, 10 Walking Lunges (per leg); 10kg weight vest.

Consistent with relatively easy strength work the last few days. I noted previously that this work trip is currently "indefinite" with no real date to go home yet, although I know it will be at least by Christmas. That said, I was chatting with my younger brother (former 100m/200m/long jumper in collegiate track) via text yesterday about what is more difficult - a sub :60 400m or a sub 5:00 mile. He shared some of his opinions and I had some of my own but it helped give me a few things to work towards while I am not on the erg.
