BTW after my session today I tried to scientifically measure if the Citius Remex is any softer/squishier than the c2 seat: according to my calibrated measuring device (my finger), it isn't. They are just as stiff or very close to (maybe the CR is a tiny bit squishier than the c2 seat, but really it's a big maybe and if, just barely). I think it's the shape that does the trick.
Thanks for the scientiffic experiment :). I guess that when the pad gets too squishy, it probably wouldn't provided the support it does now. And, it is a sport, it should still hurt a little. Too much comfort and we all turn into the humans of Wall-E.

Why should I, and people like me, and people who are embarrassed about their body, and modest people of faith, be forced to wear a tight top because Concept 2 can't be bothered to fix this simple mechanical problem?
There you go, Concept 2. Simple problem. Simple solution.

followed by a whole bunch of people who damage the rollers/seat mech by picking up the erg by it and dragging it around....

My first reaction is that it is a huge safety risk when falling off at the back (strapless rower). This is a thing that happened to me twice: once when I tore the band of my NordicTrack, and once when drag was set ridiculously low.

And it doesn't work for really longer stuff anyways.

Not sure what you mean? Why wouldn't it? FWIW, I've done a strapless FM and didn't have any issues.

I row 100% strapless, including two HM's a week. I meant longer clothing. That handle thingy will not keep my poncho off the rail, as it is far to long. But it could hurt my back badly when I shoot of at the back (doesn't happen often, but often enough to worry about it).

Seriously... if someone wants to install a safety rail for long t-shirts go for it. Post pictures. Not happening. Just like chain covers for bicycles so you can pedal with floppy pant legs. **

We have a genius stirring the pot. Think we'll discover he has a youtube channel and there's a panel discussion before each post about what would be most triggering and a keyword bingo session set up for the replies.

** heading off the discussion of shaft drives. just no.

A small towel, folded over.
I used to do this until one day somehow it unravelled, caught in the rollers and unceremoniously dumped me painfully on rail behind the seat...
Ian's experience shows both the potential danger of a folded towel and/or a shirt tail getting caught under the seat roller - a tumble backwards and cracking your head on the rail or the floor. The simple guard shown in the 6 second video (installed 15 years ago) prevents this from happening. Your collective objections to this sensible addition have no merit.

I have a small hand towel thing that was given out at a Tough Mudder running event about 10 years ago. Fits the C2 seat pretty perfectly and is prob as helpful for sweat soaking than comfort.
Snapped a quick pic. Certainly not fancy but does the job.

I have been using an inflatable air camping/stadium seat cushion. I use two sided tape to keep it in position on the erg's plastic seat. I can go over an hour now on a row with only the slightest seat discomfort after 60 mins or so. Huge improvement!

It does take a bit of getting used to, and care getting on and off, and also I do NOT use foot straps (for the better ab workout while rowing).
Between the two, it does take some focus and attention to make the two work well.
Also, I am 72+ with hypertension so I do not push too hard on the rower, I try to stay mostly aerobic for the whole row, although out of boredom occasionally I will push some intervals.

But that inflatable seat cushion works great to prevent butt discomfort (and I tried just about every other cushion option there is for the erg...)

Interesting. I have two questions:

1) How thick is it when inflated?

2) For folks who use public ergs at the gym, and therefore don't what to attach it to the seat permanently, would it move around too much if not held in place by the tape?

I use the C2 foam pad and even though I haven't bothered to remove the backing to expose the sticky part on the back, which leave a slightly slick surface at the bottom of the pad, I don't have issues with it sliding around, so maybe an inflatable pad would also stay in place. I guess it depends on the both one's technique and how much you move around and the coefficient of friction of the bottom of the pad in question.

The first few times I used it I had the distinct feeling of it making me more aware of "where/how I was sitting on it": things like leaning back too much, sitting with the pelvis rotated too forward (sitting on your tail bone) etc.
Recieved mine today and did a test-session. I understand what you mean. What I like is the feeling that my hip is free to move more. And indeed a better spread of the load and thus a less sore feeling.

I agree that it's a bit annoying when it moves around: I only had this problem on fast paces (let's says 2K or less). As I only row at home, I solved that by fixing one of the inserts it came with to the c2 seat with double sided tape: when you put the Citius Remex on top of the insert, that's enough to keep it in place. This way you can still remove the CR (to bring it on another erg, when I go on holiday) and, if you want, you can row without it (the insert won't bother).
Mine came with velcro strips with the inserts. So I used it to attach the insert to the seat, and the insert is strone enough to stay in its place. But it didn't move around much during a Steady State session.

But since I put it on (and did a few tests with/without), I never rowed without again.
This is a keeper indeed. Thanks again for the tip!

Yes, that's what I did too. It only moved around before doing that (i.e. only putting the seat on top of the c2 seat, without anything to keep it in place).
