3/10/24(Thu)

10x200m(1)

2km-5.49.6-1.27.4-R39-524w

7watts quicker than last time for the same rate so I'll take that, especially as these are the sesssions I struggle on.

Could feel the increased fitness coming through, but still a deceivingly hard sesh.

Various resistance work after..........
Good pacing here, those one minute recoveries soon pass by...

Cheers Alex. Ok for the moment, needs to be faster though......

Was hoping the Devon Indoor 5km was going to go ahead this year but hasn't materialised.

My training partner and I were planning to go down for the weekend, me doing the 5km and him the 1km.....

As a spontaneous idea tried a SkiErg 2k today, but failed.
I already felt some "handbrake mode" during my skierg warmup, something affected my breathing. I thought it would loosen up, but it wasn't the case. Despite this feeling, started the 2k, but gave up before reaching the 1k mark.

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M

1:28.8	912m	1:47.7	280	1262	40
Afterwards I did 3 sets pause squats @90kg, some pullup and pushup variations, felt much better then.
Programmed 8x250m for a short burst and breathing was no problem anymore.

Code: Select all

I think I ate a bit too late, as I went to the gym a bit earlier as usual, and I had a coffee right before, so my digestive system was not ready to go and needed some time.

Nothing much this week - one session in the garage on the erg where I changed plan about 3x, then boat club gym session last night.
The infamous snakes and ladders session... a giant sized board.. teams of 2... 10 different exercises numbered 0-9. What ever number you end up on after moving your giant counter you do 20 of that exercise. So could be 20 press up, 20 squats, 20 lunges, 20 sit-ups and so on - what ever the number equates to. If you go up a ladder you do 40 instead  , down a snake only 10. Soon as your team finishes you run to the board and throw the dice again. Race to the top. This was bookended by stretching and steady-state on the erg, then more steady-state and stretching again at the end. Staggered back to car afterwards

I think at the end of the gym session, the outcome would have been different. It really wasn't fatigue of muscles or something similar, only not getting into appropriate breathing.
My one and only skierg 2k is 7:06.3 from February during the tour de skierg. I'm pretty sure I can manage a sub 7 on this machine now.

The aim was faster 10k. It was too ambitious and I stopped after 3k because I could not concentrate anymore on it. I am out of practice what harder rows are concerned.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
12:14.6 3,103m 1:58.3 211 1026 27 152

4:22.4 3,103m 1:58.9 208 1015 28 154

I then rowed the remaining 7k at an easier pace.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
30:08.2 7,000m 2:09.1 162 859 22 144

5:45.6 7,000m 2:03.4 186 940 24 153

I posted it because I hope that it will help me to keep going next time.

Posting also the "bad" sessions, holds you accountable for the progress. Also everybody can see, struggles are normal, so this can be motivating for others, too.
Same happened to me yesterday with a skierg 2k, so what. Next time.

CTC October for Team Oarsome...was after something like last month's pace (1:51.2 ) but did better than expected :D

Ha, we all need to be faster! I haven't touched any short stuff in a while, look forward to seeing how I fare at it at current fitness.

I'd like to have a crack at a 5k in a competitive environment, it's tough going solo in a garage.

The bad days are what make the good days that much better.

You've got to use bad days as fuel for the next time, especially if deep down you know that it was a lack of fortitude to keep going, rather than you'd given 100% and still failed.

As Sascha says, everyone struggles at some point. It's all part of the game, and I've lost count of how many bad days I've had, but I'll never hide from a bad day or a stupid ego led decision.

First row in 17 days after a 2 week holiday. Came back with a cold as usual. Didn"t push too hard but tried to keep rate at 24. Didn't feel too bad at all considering I've gained about 5lbs on holiday. Now looking forward to autumn/winter rowing season.

After a 5k walk to an event location, 6h party time and another 5k back with only 4 hours of sleep, I needed a low intensity session.
Low rate, blind HM. Felt much better than expected
