A long block of circa 100km weeks would work wonders for me, as it would most if they can tolerate the volume. But now is not the time to do it...
That did seem to work for me, but I was also in lockdown and off work, so who knows what hidden benefits that gave me.

I seem to think that your age has changed, so happy belated birthday if it has

When I normally connect my HRM to the PM5 it's usually around 52/53, since holidays and then covid it's on 62/63.
A definite sign you're still not quite right. Coughing up blood also was a definite sign you weren't right too
Yes, the covid was not nice for about four days. The high HR will be a combination of time off the erg and covid but should settle down over the coming weeks. Coughing blood was down to the severity of the cough I had.

6/9/24(Fri)

3500m(5)/2500m(4)/1500m

7500m-26.27.9-1.45.8-R23-295w

3500m-12.21.7-1.45.9-R23-294w

2500m-8.49.2-1.45.8-R23-295w

1500m-1.45.6-R24-297w

Tough 5km specific session.

Very muggy today, sweating buckets but solid enough pace overall and for the rate.

I could make it work in the New Year. But yes, being off work would certainly aid the recovery.

Thanks, was August bank holiday. Can't hide behind it, I'm ageing like the rest of us!

Plugged in 15km, with a view to negative splitting. Well on track for it, until my old calf/foot numbing issue decided to return. Came on half an hour in, just wanted to get to 10km before making the call that it wasn't going away.

Team Oarsome Challenge for September is 1-5min/1min rest....quite a tasty session if you go after it and the rests seem pointless after the 3/4 mins. Happy to break 1:50 on this.

Nicely done Al. My love of 1k / 1r repeats might be something that makes this more bearable for me.

Have you got any idea of what you've done differently? It seems strange that it's returned suddenly.

Lack of stretching? A different weight training exercise? Something different at work? It feels like you need to think laterally on this unless your training has changed in a subtle way. Your focus can all too easily become too narrowly based on just your erging and what's happened today, or recently.

I am keeping on top of stretching my calf and achilles, it sure feels tight.
I think the biggest culprit is my footwear at work, I wear safety boots for 9/10 hours of a 12 hour shift... Whilst being lightweight and no longer steel toe cap, they are still cut above my ankle, and if there is already tightness there....
Weights have remained the same, only lower body work I do is a couple of sets of back squats a week. Put off my intended single leg work because it was adding to my workload during a period I'm cutting back (for more time and recovery on the Erg).
I rode my bike for 3 hours on Thursday and I'm clipped in, I did feel a little cramp come on after a couple of hours, but I also didn't drink enough.
I can and will take advantage of using a physio through a work referral. Thank you for your input, my right side is fine so happy to rule the Erg out.

9/7 - Strength work.

Did not feel particularly good on the day; trained a bit later than I would have liked so garage was well into the 90's, outside temps into the low 100's with no real cloud cover during lunges, thus it was a sweaty mess. Session ended up being a bit abbreviated due to some plans we had so pushed the pace on the accessory work to get done. Not a bad session, but not a great one either, just another one to check the box. It looks like temps are finally starting to break as of early this coming up week which will be a nice relief. After Sunday's session, I'll end up around 2 hours of strength work and 50k on the erg so a decent week all things considered.

Time: 40:00

Empty Barbell Warmup: Standing Press, Barbell Row, SLDL/RDL - 3 rounds, 10 reps each

Deadlift: 135 x 5 x 3 sets, 225 x 5, 295 x 5, 345 x 5 x 3 sets

Pull-up (5 reps), Feet Elevated Push-up (10 reps), Walking Lunge (10 reps) - 10 rounds, 10kg weight vest

Did my first Full Marathon today, was aiming for under the 3 hour mark so paced for that. Resting heart rate was a bit higher than normal due to remnants of a cold so tried to keep HR in check. The most difficult bit was eating & drinking without losing to much time :)

Got a time of 2:59:32 so pretty happy with that for a starter.
