After my 4x2000 HD on Sunday I was going to have a second attempt yesterday with more appropriate target paces. Unfortunately heavy traffic and a late dinner got in the way, so back on plan with an L4 today and rehash of 4x2000 will be on next L2 day. Which will be a week on Friday as a week holiday first.

Base building continues, today's session was easily the most in control that I've felt and the HR actually lined up with the RPE for the first time.

1k repeats on undefined rests, with the usual restart. I decided to stop when my HR didn't get under 60% after two minutes, as I'm still very much in the same position of feeling like I can do more, but also feeling like something is holding me back.

It's time to be sensible this week but also not ease off too much as I'm thinking / hoping that it's forcing the creation of more red blood cells as a consequence.

60min r18. Needed a low intensity session and started r18 aiming for 2:05. Was a bit faster and stuck to the pace, until I closed my eyes after 40mins for the last 3 splits.

40:00.0 1,220m 2:02.9 188 948 20 146

Think a bit of progress has been made. Did a 30r20 at this pace/rate last week and hit 146 HR at 25 mins. But mid June was doing this rate/pace for 45 mins with peak HR at 131 so a way to go yet.

4/9/24(Mon)

12x500m(1)

6km-19.58.9-1.39.9-R26

Not easy, went out sub 1.40 for the first 7(I think), then let the next 4 run out to around 1.40.3/4. The last one at 1.38.2(R27).

Feeling tired, the gains now whilst still coming are naturally slowing.

Always hard at a sub optimal rate as well.

Various strength lifting after......

9/4 - 6k on the erg; 2k warm up, 20 x 100m (~10 strokes) on 1:00 rest, 2k cool down.

Again, a bit pressed for time today due to a work appointment but the rest of the week and the weekend are pretty well clear to get back to training as normal. Did something I could fit into the window I had while working on a weakness, being higher stroke rates and higher power outputs. Finished the session still feeling fresh but as though I accomplished something. Every interval was exactly 10 strokes and they were all done from a "standing" start, meaning I started right when the rest period was up. A little bit of fluctuation on time of each but general trend of getting faster as the session went on. I purposely did these in a much more controlled fashion too than the last time I did hard 100m intervals as I wanted the form / technique to be more in line with that for what I envision to be a 1k or 2k test, just with a lot more power per stroke than I currently have the capacity to maintain for the entire distance. Went a bit harder on the last interval but that's my norm.

4/9/24(Mon)

Once more, pretty identical to me. I was 0.5secs slower total time, set off a tad slower and ramped up... I rated a notch higher. Makes me really appreciate a 20 minute 6k!

Do you program your lifting, or just whatever takes your fancy/how you're feeling? I'm very much the latter at present.

BPP W16S3 30'/R20....target was around 2:01 but went after this one so pretty much a 100% effort at R20. Best 30' for a long wee while.

An interrupted 3x6:00/2:00. Whilst not affiliated to a team for the CTC, I did like the look of this and felt it would be a good marker for 5k pace work. Clocked a 1:43 split fit the first, interrupted part way through the second, but in all honesty, that was just an excuse to stop. Tired and going through the motions. Look forward to a proper attempt when fresh.

45 miles on the bike, enjoying whatever is left of this poor excuse for a summer (in the north of England, anyway).
