I have seen people's progress including heartbeat shown on the monitor. What is this witchcraft ?

Ergdata is c2's own app, ergzone is 3rd party with pretty the same features (but some disadvantages on one hand, but advantages on the other hand), both free of charge (ergzone locks some features in the free version).

I'm confused 😕 I downloaded the c2 app so it will connect with the mp5 and record my data directly on to the logbook.

How can it track my heartbeat ? Do I need a watch with a chest belt or just a chest belt?
Sorry for being thick !

No problem
You can either use a watch or a belt, but most watches are very unreliable, so I would suggest using a belt. You connect the belt to the PM5 and ErgData will recognize the belt and save this connection for future use.

FWIW, I use a CooSpo HRM (chest strap) which is a lot cheaper than the big brands, and works just as well. You can also use the Polar Beat app, which is free, to track your HR for every session

A HR monitor (chest is best) can connect directly to the c2 monitor to view your HR without use of an app.
I use the ergdata app on my phone, but that is so that my sessions can load straight into the c2 log.
It takes less than a minute to connect HR to monitor, open app and connect app to monitor.

5K 22.14 (2 Oct 21)
Resting HR 45 (was 48 in 2021)....Max HR (Seen) 182 [185 cycling]

The most popular belts are manufactured by Polar (H10) and Garmin.
