That's quite an improvement.

Different slant to the usual times/distances.

Yesterday I did what is currently a standard session for me, 5k w/up and then 2 x 30 min looking for HR average around AT level.

First session was good and averaged 1:51 and 81% with around 21 mins above 80%.

Second session was difficult though. for the first 10 mins struggled for rhythm and several times had to counter the desire to just stop. Not physical just mental.

So, checked HR. This was fine and physically I was okay so told myself no reason to stop.

Reviewed technique; compression fine, shins nice and vertical. legs back arms okay. Shoulders relaxed. Fast hands on recovery and drive. Recovery steady and good drive with legs. So, looked like technique fine. No reason to stop.

I had to do this several times, which is very unusual, but eventually I settled in a good rhythm and finished the second session feeling good (1:53 split and 82% HR)

This for me was a serious challenge to complete the planned session not because of any physical issue but simply that mentally I had not quite switched on to it and unless I do this the longer AT sessions are tough.

So when I am struggling mentally with training session again, or am pushing hard with racing I can call upon the experience to help set the rhythm, maintain my focus and remind myself what I am actually capable of doing.

I tried a 500 m today. 1:27:5. That's 0.3 faster than my old time.
Again another PB for my new age category.
3 distances to go to have all my distances in 40-49. I have to do a 5k, 6K and 10K.
And of course the halve and full marathon but i don't know if i ever gonna do that crazy stuff Okay, maybe a halve marathon....

Broke my 2k PB today.
we were doing two 2k's with a 10 min break in between. The 1st 2k had its rate capped at 28spm and the second at 30spm.
1st 2k- 6.55.1
1.42
1.42
1.45
1.44
I was pretty shattered for the second one and only did 7.18 and no i couldn't manage the rate at 30spm so it ended up at 28spm.

My question is, on tuesday i had pulled a pb of 6.56.7 and it was during my own time after rowing so i did my own rate which ended up at 35spm. Is rating high like this such an advantage as i was able to do better at 7spm less, yes i realise this will probably be replied to about ur norway guy who rates 41 but any thoughts.
i also felt alot better after the first one today than i did after the higher rated one on tuesday, cheers.

New 30:00 PB of 8020m. Breaks my mark of 8011m set on March 15, 2003 and is only my second time ever over 8K .

I tried to do this two days ago but croaked after 12:00 and struggled to finish the whole piece at my AT level to at least salvage a decent workout. Apparently I was still too tired from racing on Sunday to be trying for PB's. Took yesterday off completely. No stretching, no pushups or chinups, no nothing. Bounced back nicely today. Gained nine points in the Nonathlon .

Rick

Good going, Rick!

Did your family go with you to the Crash-B's? I tried to catch your race but the webcast stopped working on me.

Thanks Carla. No, the family didn't go. Dennis Hastings is the only one who drags his wife to these thngs . Which is good because she usually brings food.

Actually Paul Flack had the whole family with him, and FrankJ had his wife who took home bronze. My family prefers to admire my efforts from afar. Denise is thus less likely to call 911 on me and Pete is less likely to laugh in my face .

Rick

On the anti-Zatopek front:

3:04.4 1k today, cough and all, not bad but hardly in Graham Benton or Speedy territory. Had a 1:31.2 split for 500m, which was highly stupid since I couldn't hold it or my 37 spm rating. Still I managed to limp home w/o too much loss of technique..... How Dwayne et all can put out 500 or more watts for an entire piece is beyond me.....

Here's to herbal throat spray, which is helping....

Rick, Actually she comes along of her own free will. I secretly suspect she wonders about the sort of folk I hang out with, ergers are a strange lot you know. Great go on the PB. That sly dog PS got me to do 8k under 30 by disguising it as 10mps. While I did erg this week, no massive Pb efforts, but I have had some great fun being the lead out man for the sprinters in our noon cycling group. Today I got it ramped it up to 33mph on the lead out before the big dogs blew by me for the last 200. Great fun. Pictures are in and in the mail soon. About a dozen of you and the hammer later d

Your PB will giving me something to work towards for the next 2!

Dennis, two months ago I maxed out on my ability to do S10MPS for 30:00 with a 7936m, a 1:53.4 pace. Getting it down to 1:52.2 for the 8020M required another 3 spm and straps. Whew! Looking forward to pictures. Maybe then my son will be impressed. Then again, maybe not .

Good 1 hour rows there Cityeast, Anthony and Ninthman. Ninthman, I know you posted up about your 2K, but I'm impressed that you can hold onto such a fast pace for a full hour. I can beat your 2K but not your hour, even though I think of myself as more of a long distance athlete. Nice going.

Rick
