Alex inspired to me to stop putting off 5k best effort. So chose today of all days! (28 degrees C in my garage!)

17:45.1.

It was hard and I definitely earnt this one. I find 5k worse than any other distance. Something about it just ruins me, so very happy to put this to bed for a while. :)

Wow, impressive. Even more in 28C.

On my side I seem to be now totally unable to best my PBs (for anything 2K or longer) in too high temps.
Even my steady state/zone 2 sessions are a PITA at the moment (32-33C in the garage). I have to slow them down a ton.

Agreed, the heat makes a huge difference. Bodes well for when it cools down though :)

Not to speak of your height and age
I hope to get a grip at this soon. But currently my body has other plans, recovery isn't very well last days and I have no idea
Ha, okay, I'll give you that... could be a number of factors hampering recovery, but post holiday slump is a real thing, even if you did keep active. You'll soon pick up.

Brilliant, a very well done. And yes, it's hard. Not short enough to just quickly push through it and watch the numbers tumble, but not long enough to just pace it through.

Cracking result Anthony, especially in that heat and a distance that you're not naturally drawn to. Wasn't there a wobble at about 3.5k - 4k? IMHO, if there wasn't this is a great sign for another go in cooler weather.

Thanks Stu, and all.

Not a wobble, per se, but I was hanging out and breathing hard but just fought through it and actually picked the pace up slightly. Once I’d broke into the final 1K, was plain sailing as I knew I’d cracked the sub 18 by then and put everything I had left into it.

I agree re the cooler weather, going to carry on what I’m doing and will give it another go a few weeks before BRIC, aiming for sub 17:30 by then.

Yes!!! Sub 17:30 (keeping a sub 7 Min 2K pace) is awesome for the 5K and a big milestone.

Congrats, Alex & Anthony, on your recent 5k achievements. Having had some mental battles with the 5k myself this past spring, I can definitely relate to the challenge!

After last week's HD during a 30r20 attempt, I was feeling especially spry today so decided to give it another go:

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M
30:00.0	8,610m	1:44.5	306	1354	20	170
5:00.0	1,435m	1:44.5	306	1354	20	154
10:00.0	1,433m	1:44.6	305	1350	20	166
15:00.0	1,435m	1:44.5	306	1354	20	171
20:00.0	1,434m	1:44.6	306	1352	20	174
25:00.0	1,434m	1:44.6	306	1352	20	177
30:00.0	1,440m	1:44.1	310	1365	20	180
I didn't have the stroke count visible during the piece, so did my best to stay right on 20spm; ended with 605 strokes total. I've had the sub-1:45 average for this test on my to-do list for some time, so it felt great to get it done!
