All the zone 3 training is paying off. 1hr TT of 15829m today. I even enjoyed the row!! Bodes well for breaking that16000m barrier next time round.
Great row Anthony. The hour is a tough one to pace right, but breaking 16k won't be long now if you felt like you enjoyed this session.

Sadly its very common in the ultra sprints where each individual stroke has a bigger impact on overall result. The second line is the "split", the first the true Result. Most of us are dying at the end of an ultra sprint and the last stroke typrically weaker than the previous. The Result is the Result that will be in transferred to your log, the split is the last time the split was calc'd before the end. I can't tell you the number of times I've finished a 100m with a 15.9 split but 16.0 result. Never yet managed to get one to stick! Frustrating innit!?

I see, this makes sense, thanks. Every day a school day n all...and yes it's a tad frustrating, 365 will have read better than 364. Next time!

Good stuff, 6m+ to mine
The split result is based on internal data which is handled differently, the overall result is rounded by some weird math, which is different to the math of the splits

Back to topic - 6k CTC today with a new PB (not a surprise, as the old one is stone old).
First go beginning of the month I bailed as my legs gave up soon from previous training day, so this time I started much more on the safer side with 1:45 target to get to a sub 21.

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M
21:03.5	6,000m	1:45.2	300	1331	27	171
3:30.4	1,000m	1:45.2	301	1334	28	164
3:30.4	2,000m	1:45.2	301	1334	28	168
3:30.6	3,000m	1:45.3	300	1331	27	171
3:30.0	4,000m	1:45.0	302	1340	28	175
3:31.9	5,000m	1:45.9	294	1312	28	175
3:30.2	6,000m	1:45.1	301	1337	29	175
Unfortunately, it didn't work out to go sub 21, but I could shave off a good bit of my previous PB: - 11.8s.
On a good day sub 21 is definitely in, but I needed to get a result in the books regardless of my feelings about fitness
Not to get me wrong - I'm satisfied with this result :)
Wow, jut saw this - great row! Nearing sub 7:00 2K pace for 6K is impressive.

Good power. The 1 minute can be brutal as you are almost in a full sprint the entire time.

What’s the secret? Once I get to 36 strokes a minute it’s all I can do to not fall off the erg. Do you need to take shorter strokes?

Not sure I have the secret but my SPM for the 1min is usually in the mid to high 40s. I may shorten the stroke some but not a lot. I know others really shorten the stroke but that's when I seem to lose form. Been a while since I did a 1 Min but I know I upped the drag quite a bit and moved foot position up a notch and then just drove the pace down and held as long as I could - definitely a fly and die approach.

Exactly this, plus I'll put a heavy plate either side of the erg. Drag for this was 180, but I'd experiment with this next time out. I was hanging on last 10-15 seconds, definitely lost a chunk of time/metres.

Interesting, I’ll try those tips and see how I get on. Never really given sprints a go other than short intervals when they come up on WOD.

Same for me as written by others. On my recent 1min attempt rate at 44, drag 161, no short strokes (except start), fly and die with 20s splits at 1:22.6, 1:23.3 and 1:25.4. If I could rate up a little bit without compromising my stroke quality/power, I probably could reach the 360m mark out a bit above. No need for plates to stabilise the rower, but I'm not that heavy and rower stays on sticky rubber floor.

Another 1k skierg PB B)
My training partner and I had a race again during the gym warmup - he on the rower, me on the skierg.
Last week on Monday I could improve my old PB by >2s, today I shaved another 1.5s off :D
I used a higher rate this time (+3 average) and it worked well. Except my burning lungs afterwards

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M
3:17.0	1,000m	1:38.5	366	1560	49
0:38.5	200m	1:36.2	393	1650	51

0:39.6	600m	1:39.0	361	1541	49
0:40.0	800m	1:40.0	350	1504	50
0:39.7	1,000m	1:39.2	358	1532	50
My training partner tried to go below 3:20, but missed the goal with a 3:20.8, which is his new best on the rower :)
