This is Magnetron....an old Dodge truck with about 400K miles on it. One of the things Bike Jeffco (specifically Mike) does for Team Evergreen is to sweep the course for tacks and other bits of metal debris prior to the start of the Triple Bypass iconic ride. As in previous years, and perhaps even more so this year, riders were anxious to get on the course to make the checkpoints before cut off times. Magnetron was having to work around cyclists at the end of the sweep. Daylight was about 5 AM, and cyclists can hit the road as long as they have front and rear lights. The ride goes over Juniper, Loveland, and Vail passes - 118 miles, 10,800 climbing ft...and amazingly 4,500 riders signed up. These are people from all over the world. This year's ride was yesterday, and temperatures in the Front Range area soared into the 100 degree range. It wasn't a ton better on the mountain passes as riders reported temperatures approaching 90. Don't know how many of the cyclists finished the event - there was also a Double Bypass ride that was 78 miles that excluded Juniper Pass. Riding down Loveland Pass (summit is 11,800 ft) is cold, and steep. Even with feathering your brakes, it feels scary. I have ridden this - probably 20 years ago!

Escaped the heat by driving up to the mountains - dogs will be happy to get into the lake soon (and since they get all primitive in rolling in whatever skunky kinds of stinks (this is beyond smells)...I'll be glad for them to get into the lake, too. Colorado summmmr.

Hummingbird in rose bushes! These yellow rose bushes bloom for a few weeks up at 8500 ft - there is no extra water provided by drip or other irrigation methods - it's just what nature gives as rain or snow melt. There must be over 100 buds on these!
