Congratulations, Jon! You should be excited, that's a great time. It is really fun when you get that screen when you try to rank that tells you what a great row it was. Where do you think it places you? <br><br><br> Do you usually use the predicted time mode? Is that different on the PM3 than on the PM2? I find on the PM2 (I bought a used C recently) that in that mode, every pull, unless you are super consistent, changes the prediction and makes it harder for me to stay at the pace I want. <br><br><br> What's the Fall Challenge? Hi Carla,<br>Thanks for the congrats. At the moment I'm third in my age group for the half marathon, though it's still early in the ranking year. What pleases me most was I finihed really strong and it's my best half in a long time, if not my best ever.<br><br>Predicted finish mode is virtually the same on the PM2 and PM3. It's an insidious function that I use almost all of the time. Early on in a given piece the numbers do jump around some, but the further you get into it the harder it becomes to change the predicted finish. I've got a pretty consistent pull.....<br><br>The Fall Rowing Challenge is open to "clubs"; YMCAs, health spas, etc (and of course the C2 Corporate Workout Room, which you have seen......) The idea is for your club to accumulate as many meters as possible between September 15th and October 15th. No limits on number of participants. Comfortably in the lead right now is a fitness club in Bangalore, India. They were last years winner.<br>JonW

Hi Rick- Thanks much. I'm 5'10" and usually 170-175 pounds. With a little work I can make lightweight, but I guess I just enjoy eating too much to get very serious about being a lightweight for the rankings. I've done it a few times for CRASH-B, but it can really take some of the fun out of being in Boston. <br>I've never tried the mile distance. Maybe when I'm focusing more on the shorter stuff.......JonW

New PB last night doing 20min tests with the Univ of Miami rowing team.<br>20min 5040 meters<br>1:59 ave split<br>My previous best from last year was a 2:03 split, so I'm happy. Especially with this being the first real erg test of the year! The test felt pretty good, I rowed in a nice air conditioned room on sliders (which I love and adore) and only went over my goal split of 1:59.9 from 8-4min left when I was pulling an average of 2:00.1<br>My goal for the next one is a 1:57 <br><br>Heather Johnson<br>F20 HWT 5'7" 2k 7:32.2 20min 5040

Heather- Way to go! Keep up the good work. I'm curious about the use of slides. Does the coach have you use them a lot? Do you ever do your workouts or tests on pairs, triples, quads, etc......Thanks.....JonW

Yes, we almost always use them when we erg down here(which admittedly isn't much beyond the time that we're forced off the water by the NCAA). The coaches always like us to use them when we're doing work on our own too. <br>Sometimes during winter training we will actually set up 2 'eights' side by side and see which one can pull a better average, it really helps to show who can still pull hard while also following. I also seem to recall some delightfully evil 5' pieces with the ergs hooked together in pairs last year that yielded some great results. <br>Personally I love using the sliders, I find them much easier on the back then the stationary. Although admittedly this may just be a technique thing on my part. The feedback on the feel of the recovery just makes things a lot easier for me as someone who's used to rowing a single all the time on the water.<br><br>Heather Johnson<br>F20 HWT 5'7" 2k 7:32.2 20min 5040 (both on slides)

Pulled a 4k at my goal 10k pace yesterday, which consequently gave me a 4k PR of 16:24.<br><br>Next on the list is a 1500m at goal 4k pace, so 1500 in 5:48. Wish me luck.<br><br>Instead of another post Ill just add it here. 1500m in 5:45.6 today.

Hi,<br><br>today was the sixth time i rowed. Every time i row, i row faster so it's nice and motivating to see you're improving.<br>Today i rowed 4085 meters in 15 minutes. About 10 meters further than last week!

Congrats to all the personal best efforts recently posted.<br><br>I rowed a 6k pb today. I do pb attempts rarely because they hurt too much. One of the problems with that attitude is that I'm not quite sure at what intensity I should row. With that in mind, I went out on Sunday for a 6k attempt at last year's 5k pace - I broke about half way into it. I failed miserably but learned a little about my present condition. So I set my ambitions a little lower; I set my ambitions at last years 6k pace + 1 watt. <br><br>(I like to watch watts) Last year's 6k was done at 238.8 watts - which brought me in at 22:43. So I went for 240 watts.<br><br>I got to the desired pace within 3 strokes and held it for the rest of the 6k, with about 200 m to go I sprinted. I ended at 245.5 watts which brought me in at 22:30.5 - about 13 seconds faster than last year. That works out to about 1:52.5/500m pace.<br><br>This weekend I'll go for a 5k pb - 18:31 is my pb from last year, which is about 254 watts. I think I'll shoot for 255 watts.<br><br>Regarding my training, my total volume of meters is down from last year. I spent a major segment of the training year in strength training on the erg, which I detailed in posts regarding heavy 10's; then, I started to concentrate on long rows at 60% intensity. I meant to do 1 Heavy 10 workout each week but that has been neglected. <br><br>We'll see what happens regarding the 5k.<br><br>Jim Pisano<br>38 y.o., 75 kg, 6k 22:30.5; 5k ?; 2k ? - scheduled for November 1

I haven't looked here much, and owe you all congratulations. Promise to read more and offer them. I'm not one to post every best here, as I do it on the rankings anyway, but today was kind of special.<br><br>7 months ago while helping unload an 8 man shell, with many fewer helpers, my left biceps popped completely off of the lower arm attachment. It was 4 weeks of zero motion, 4 more of ultralight erging, and then the doc said I could go for it, and the fun started. <br><br>So here, 5 more months later, I finally bested for the first time since my injury, my 2k.
