Thanks sir Pirate. I've gotten increasingly pleased with the results during the day and a good feeling of achievement has been lurking about inside.

kept my shirt tucked in today and managed 38:00:00 for 10K (1:54), a PB by 13 seconds. did the first 5 in about a 1:56 and then just decided to go for it. desperately tried for under 38 but couldn't quite get it. it's funny- i figured i was just going to have a slow 10k to recover, but i felt really good. do other people know when they are going to go for a pb, or do you just fall into it?

andrew

Most times I plan a PB, but sometimes -just like you- a training goes very well, and then I decide to go for it, and sometimes that gives me a new PB.

But I'm very new at rowing, so there is much room for improvement.

I got a new PB for 30:00 yesterday morning. My previous PB was 7743 meters, enroute to a 10k at 1:56.3 pace.

The night before, I calculated that 1:56 pace for 20 minutes and then 1:54 for 10 minutes would give me 7803 meters. That seemed tough. Breaking the last part down to 5 minutes at 1:55 and 2 1/2 minutes each at 1:54 and 1:52 seemed more doable.

When morning came I got a late start and felt that goal was too ambious, so decided to just do the 30 minutes at 1:58 pace and try the PB another time.

However, my first few strokes got me right to 1:56 and I decided to see how long that pace was possible to hold. It ended up feeling reasonably comfortable for the first 10-15 minutes and by 20 minutes I was still holding 1:56.0. At that point it was getting harder and I wasn't feeling like picking up the pace, so just kept clicking the 1:56's with a few 1:55's tossed in here and there.

I'd been rowing on the average pace mode, and should have switched to projected meters with 6:00 to go. I was concerned about holding the pace though and didn't, a mistake that might have cost me the extra 7-10 meters.

Finally I switched to projected pace with less than 2:00 to go. The display was on 7780 meters so it looked good for a new PB at that point. Then I picked it up more with a minute to go, getting close to 7790, then with 40 seconds to to getting above this but not close to 7800 as it was too late to make up that much distance.

The last five 2:00 splits were:
1:55.8 - 1:55.6 - 1:55.2 - 1:54.4 - 1:51.7

The end result was 7793 meters at 1:55.5 pace.

A new PB and I am very happy about this.

It was 66 degrees and humid at the finish, so I might be able to trim this when the weather gets cooler and less humid.

df 91 - rate 34/35

Bill.

Great!! Your S10PS sessions are paying off.

Don't mind about it being recorded on Ergmonitor. I tried a simultaneous recording on PM2+ and ergmonitor and found it very accurate (less than 1 sec during 20 min).

Tom

Indeed a great improvement Godfried, and at a very short time too! You'll be under 39 in no time and that means you're quite fast.
