From yesterday...captured the numbers, and blinked....the day was disappeared...but I did learn a few things about Community Engagement. One of the things I do is represent cyclists in transportation and engineering meetings when new street designs are being proposed. Municipalities often write grants to hire a consulting firm to do the design work. That way, the municipality only has to come up with 20 percent of the design and study cost. There are several points of community engagement, and generally the first one is to do a walking, biking or driving audit of the area. Some pop up events occur, usually as part of another community festival (summer block parties, neighborhood movie nights), and further feedback is gathered from area residents. All in all, VERY FEW community residents participate in the feedback process...like less than one percent. So we have a bigger responsibility or role in the process. Once the design is done, the feedback received to tweak the designs...then the municipality has to come up with the millions it takes to implement. And that's when you have to have a backup plan ready. We are in the stage where the "here's what we heard, and what we think will resolve this" happens. At the end of the process, many times we will have to accept on street paint markings vs a concrete barrier. I have graphics envy over the tools the design team uses!

Kai still has to wear her "party hat" aka the cone. Hopefully this goes away on Friday at her recheck. The party hat is a weapon...clears all out of her path! Getting to the deck without stairs requires going out the basement slider, around the house and by the junipers (a bunny was there on one of the trips), and then in through the front door. 6.5 more weeks. Ooof. Still, anthropomorphic or not, I don't want this spirited dog to be depressed or feel imprisioned.

Marathon row done. I would say that I enjoyed that, but I’d be lying. I don’t remember what my times were back in the day, but I got this done in about 3 hours 40 minutes (2:36 pace) - including several rests.

This actually went better than I thought. In the final 10k I knew that I would get it done, but was concerned that the tech would die on me - I use an app called EXR and have had a few glitches that I hoped were resolved (settings issue, not app related). Having a tech issue with a few km left would have … uhm… well, to be polite, it would have been sub-optimal.

I want to also thank you for doing all the work in this forum, kona2. This can’t be easy for you, day in and day out. It is appreciated.

Hooyah! Congratulations, mardix, on a fine, fine full marathon. That's a biggie to knock off on the first day of the Marathon & Century Challenge, and the first day of the season!! Well done!


Now I just have to figure out why I can see that you've completed the marathon on the honor board, but your meters aren't showing up in Lunie stats...
