LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Team Progress Thru 3.27.24
This seemed share worthy so here it is. There's a traveling exhibit called Washed Ashore (put together by an Oregon nonprofit called same) that is currently in several cities. Volunteers picked up things that were washed ashore on Oregon beaches, and collaborated with sculptors to create amazing sculptures to heighten awareness of our need to save the sea...from plastic, from tires, from old buoys and new, from plastic pails and flip flops, and from the ubiquitous single use water bottles. This exhibit happened to be at Tucson Botanical Gardens. By each placard that describes the jellyfish, or the parrotfish or the puffin, etc., there are lists of things for kids and adults to play "I Spy" to find some of the objects...and a tip about reducing waste, packing in and packing out, and other good messages. It's amazing, and a good message.
C2 Universe = 3,781 (5K) and 1,150 (10K) participants
Lunies = 28 (5K) and 13 (10K) Ouch!
Challenge Finishers:
5K: Judy, Gene, Ty, Ed, Norma, Chip, Ken, Wild Bill, Howard, Ron, Angelo, Tombeur, Derric, Minnie, Gary
On the cusp: David A, Glen, Catherine, Jean Jim, Carol, John
10K: Norma, Chip, Ken, Wild Bill, Howard, Ron, Gary
On the cusp: David A, Glen, Derric, John
And we're 11th!! I GREAT work! 66 Lunies keeping things going!! MARCH 30th is cut off time to ADD team members...but the Challenge continues through to 15 APRIL. Erg a little, or erg a lot! Would be great if you erg with us!!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
From my previous life as a rower, I don’t recall the April Fools challenge. Quick question about the rules. I read that we have to row an increasing number of meters every day, is that correct? Or is it only the daily goal that increases?
In other words, if someone rows 6k for two days in a row at the start, will that meet the requirements?

Lift. Row. Run. Repeat.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Each day's requirement is greater than or equal to the date. On the 1st - 1,000 meters or more. On the 2nd - 2,000 meters or more. On the 3rd - 3,000 meters or more ... on the 15th - 15,000 meters or more.(m)ardix wrote: ↑March 31st, 2024, 1:39 pmFrom my previous life as a rower, I don’t recall the April Fools challenge. Meters do not have to be done in one stint, just on the same day.
Bike meters count for half.
So, if you row 6k each day for the first two days, yes, that will fulfill the requirements for the first two days.

April Fools' Challenge...They Call It The STREAK !!! (And thanks, mardix and Wild Bill for covering the questions on the Challenge!)
April 1–15
Join us in April for a streak challenge with a difference. To take part, you need to row, ski or ride every day for 15 days from April 1. Each day, however, the distance you need to do rises. On April 1 you need to do at least 1000m. On April 2, you need to do at least 2000m, all the way up to 15,000m on April 15.
The Details
Row, ski or ride at least the correct amount each day from April 1 through to April 15.
April 1: at least 1000 meters
April 2: at least 2000 meters
April 3: at least 3000 meters
and so on up to at least 15,000 meters on April 15
Note: BikeErg meters are counted as half when applied to the challenge. So on April 1 you have to ride at least 2000m. On April 2 at least 4000m and so on.
You can combine meters from different machines, so for example on April 8, you could do 4000m on a RowErg and 4000m on a SkiErg.
This is an individual challenge. There is no sign up. You do not need to belong to a team to participate.
Meters must be entered online.
Kid's April Fools Challenge allows kids (aged 16 and under) to participate by adding 500m per day instead of 1000m.
April 1: at least 500 meters
April 2: at least 1000 meters
April 3: at least 1500 meters
Adaptive athletes can choose to participate at the 500m or 1000m levels.
Note: RowErg, SkiErg and BikeErg meters only.

And now...a bunny trail of the mind....
Back in November of 2023, I purchased a red garnet yam for my Mom during my visit there. As sometimes happens, didn't get around to using it. Fast forward some months later, and I was back in Tucson as I am usually for one week out of every four or five, and I looked over on the table and thought "oh Alaska Dan's brought Mom a plant." Well, it was a plant all right, but certainly not what I expected. I mean this yam had some filtered light, but no water. It hadn't become the unpleasant mess that a regular spud can become when left alone in the dark in the cupboard. (Yes, we all have experience with the something wicked is in here and we have to find it.) So. I left the growing yam in the collander it was sitting in, thinking it would either survive or not. This was about the time that I learned that yams and sweet potatoes are kind of viney things - and I knew we still had a few snow storms left for Colorado. This trip, despite the impending snow, I brought the yam back with the intent of planting it once we get through more of April. For transport, I put it in a cardboard box that had held a water bottle and stuffed it in my duffle. Again, it would either survive or not - but we'd give it a little bit of help. So now it has its place for the next few weeks near the African violets - getting some sunlight. It's an unusual project, but different is good.
