Yes, that's useful, but it's a little different from "Active Posts" which seemed to display everything which had been active over some stated time period (essentially a time-limited, but not content limited search, which the search feature will not allow one to perform independently...). The "View Posts Since Last Visit" ("VPSLV") is less useful if you intend to do anything except sit down for a long session, read everything and respond to everything at the same time.

If you wanted to respond to something you saw when you looked in an hour ago, and no one else has posted on that thread in the meantime, it will not show in VPSLV and if that's where you saw it, you'll have to try to find it in the forum it was posted in (if you remember that). Not so handy. :(

It's on now - sorry, I'd configured it but didn't notice the bit where it says "enable"!
Uh-huh, sure it is..... The browse, and gallery are not available at this point.

Will this forum be expanded to include the Development forum for SDK users that was present at IPBHost?

Running to keep up...

The gallery for avatars is enabled, but we don't have any avatars in the gallery! We can upload some if anyone has a copyright-free source.

The developer forums and others should be enabled once Bill has worked out the access rights system :)

Cheers, Paul

I don't think I in any way indicated that VPSLV was an exact replica of the functionality provided by VAP, and I agree that it isn't. If you don't think it improves your quality of life, I won't be offended if you don't use it! I'm confident that if it is practical to provide the VAP functionality with the new forum software, it will happen, though perhaps not immediately. There's a function there that gets most of what is needed; I'd rather they spent their immediate efforts on filling any gaps that have yet to be addressed in any fashion, wouldn't you? If you see something you might want to respond to later, just bookmark the thread in your browser.

Can you expand the signature block to 300 chars (so it matches the UK forum)?

Can you change the emoticon for cool (currently, 8) ) as that is a right royal PITA? It makes numeric lists (where folks don't use
  • tags) gain unwanted / unneeded emoticons. The old system used B) (which was also a pain but not quite as bad).

    Thanks, Dougie.

I agree with Alissa.

I always used "active posts". It would nice to have that feature again.

How about being able to upload or post our own avatars.

Also can you increase the size of the avatar. My avatar from the UK Forum won't fit on here (exceeds the 99*99 pixels limit).

And another request.

You need to enable the CAPTCHA image (or email confirmation) for the registration. Over on the UK forum we're constantly getting users who register, make one spammy post then disappear into the ether.

The CAPTCHA (that's one of those graphics with a fuzzy number embedded in it) or the email confirmation would keep those spammers at bay. (I've moaned at David Hart over on the UK forum to set this up over there.)

We also need an ignore user option.

(I think you can find a phpBB mod for that at: http://www.crescendo.net/software/phpbb ... ignore.zip
or
http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/789).

Hi Bill.

I don't think I suggested that you thought it was the same. (And either I'm misunderstanding the tone of your message or you misunderstood mine :? ...friends? :) ) But you were answering a question from someone who was asking about VAP--which is one of the functional features I had preferred on the old (but not the really old) US forum over the UK forum. I'm pretty sure I didn't say I wouldn't use what was available (and in fact I use it on the UK forum, which is why I'm aware of its limitations), but wanted to (and did) point out its limitations--and why I prefer VAP.

I too am confident that it's possible to provide the functionality of VAP w/ the new software, which is why I posted as I did. BTW, bookmarking doesn't help when you're using different compters in different locations, as I do... Which (for me) makes VAP a gap that "has yet to be addressed in any fashion"--and therefore something I'd want addressed sooner rather than later! 8)

More catching up...

Signature blocks - done

Emoticons - Not sure we'll be abe to do that, certainly not easily.

Active Posts - I too would like this back, but will require some investigation

Upload Avatars - should already (now!) be allowed

Bigger avatars - done, but I don't want to get carried away on this!

Captcha - I think I'm going to leave that off for the first few days while we ramp up on the users, but then I agree it's a good idea. I'll need to discuss with Bill first, though, as it's an accessibility issue.

Ignore - We'll have some discussions about that. Bill is keen to keep the forum as 'stock' as possible, for good reason, but there is scope for a few vital add-ins, and I understand this may be one of them!

Cheers, Paul
