Indeed, it is a big improvement, but after over a year I expect an improvement at least like this. Old PB was from December '22, so probably there is more to get on a really good day (which I had on the day of the old PB, I can remember that day ).
This time I started around 1:24, but I know I can go down to 1:21 for the first 100-200m. But this will affect the last 300 much more, so not sure if I will get benefit from it, if it is not a super duper strong day

re PRs, I'm sure you'll take over the rest of mine if you keep rowing. Age wise, you have so much more time on your side and you train really hard and consistently. I wish I'd discovered erg rowing 10 or more years earlier. My body is recovering worse, even than 2 years ago. I have two serious injuries from my rugby career that I will always have to manage and I'm at the point where I will very soon stop aspiring to break PRs to ensure my body stays healthy enough to be constantly active. I think I have got some improvement in a 500m if I can piece it all together and maybe a small improvement in the 1k if my body can withstand a month or more of good training but I think that's it. I think I have 'retired' my 2k and 5k ambitions already and I don't see myself ever enjoying longer stuff enough to try to race a 10k or 60min
my father is teaching me lawn bowls at the moment and maybe that'll be my next sport!

Ah, got it. I did two shorter strokes to get the flywheel moving, then directly transitioned to full strokes. Probably like 1/3, 2/3, full length. Jokes aside, I also faced the recovery issue some time ago. The years before I started erging, I felt really drained after each gym session and needed a full rest day to recover between them, compared to 10 years earlier, when I was doing at least 4 strength sessions combined with ~5 badminton sessions for at least two hours per week
Then I ran into the digestive issues soon after I started erging and I tried to solve it with adaptation of my diet. It was mindblowing. I always thought bad recovery was related to age and this should be like it is, but obviously I was wrong. After a short adaptation period for my metabolism (and probably some healing of inflammation and related problems in the body), my recovery and sleep was (and still is) so much better. I could start to do 3 gym sessions and go for long rowing sessions on my non-gym days, summing up 60k a week without fatigue. I only need 6 1/2 hours of sleep and I'm fully recovered, no stiff back issues after wakeup anymore (that was standard for me for years). I learned diet has so much influence to this.
Apart from this, injuries are another story.

two full ACL reconstructions on the same knee plus a torn and bulging disc. nothing to do with rowing but they limit me in lots of ways eg can't squat, lunge, run. my right ankle also arthritic already after a really bad dislocation. happily, living in a warm climate really helps the arthritis
rowing is definitely the 'safest' sport for me other than swimming. but things still go wrong. i can tweak the back at full extension on the catch - twice last year each time was 4 weeks out. and my right leg is way stronger (and 5 cm larger) than my left which can also refer issues through my sciaatic nerve.
Don't play contact sports kids! either way, I'm happy i found rowing and it's allowed me to be more competitive than I'd been in 15 years.

I only played football for a year as small kid, then transitioned to single sports and never competitive. Inlineskating, then started fitness/strength training, added badminton for nearly 10 years. Incorporated much more bodyweight into training after quitting badminton, to get a much brighter base of movements and mobility. And two years ago, yep, I landed here with my own rower
So nothing risky in terms of injuries, and luckily I never had severe injuries.

I haven't skied before, but I had to get a skierg recently (mid-Dec).
This past Friday I set a PB of 12017 m in an hour.
I know it's not much, but I was very excited to break 12 km for a seated skierg session.
(I got a verification code, but, when I entered it in the log I found out the date in my PM5 was wrong. (I assumed it would be correct in a new machine, and hadn't checked it.)
