New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Hey all,
Another PB by default - my first FM.
I stopped every 30 minutes for about 30-45 seconds to drink/eat a bite - some of the slower splits happened to have two stops in them - hard to pull the average pace back down for those.
Again, I know I don’t compare to all you fast guys, but I’m proud of myself. It’s not something I ever dreamed I would be capable of when this year began. My machine arrived at the beginning of May - so just about 8 months of erging and I’ve got 1.5 million meters in.

Really well done. Just completing an FM is a massive achievement so you should be very proud. Not that many of us ever do it, although it might not seem like it.fancyoats wrote: ↑December 31st, 2023, 9:26 pmHey all,

Just echoing what others have already said: FM is an achievement per se, but 1.5M meters in 8 months is also quite a lot. Thanks for all your messages, guys. <3 I have found this community to be a huge source of inspiration, encouragement, information, and support these last 8 months and I am so grateful for it. I look forward to putting in some more meters this new year ahead, but today I am planning on being a loaf in my pajamas.

Excellent - I love reading about the mental battle won.Gustel wrote: ↑December 29th, 2023, 8:48 amI finished my rowing calendar year with a FM PB. New PB is 2:53:47 which is a nice improvement over my old one (2:57:37.7).
Last week’s preparation for it was not great. I had planned to do it already two days ago, but failed to complete it. I went out fast (2:00 pace) and then lost all motivation at the HM distance. My HR was still below 150 and there was no physical pain at all. I just gave up. Here is the summary of it:
Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
1:25:12.5 21,134m 2:00.9 198 980 24 146
I was really surprised by it. I then gave already up on my plan to row another FM in 2023 and started eating Christmas food and drinking nice wine.
But yesterday I felt really annoyed and decided to try it today once more but without any pacing targets. I decided to row the first part strapless as an experiment and also to distract myself. It worked well until the HM distance. Then again I really struggled to keep going. HR was 144 and I had no muscle pain. This time I was better prepared mentally. I strapped my feet in and just kept going with whatever pace felt right. Below are the details of that.

Thx Keith. At least it gave me a good feel about the pace, as this would be around my go for in the next 2k. At this day in the gym I surely would have died before reaching 2k, but without sore body and fresh mind it seems possible to go for 2k at this pace. Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
And as you prob know, I am a huge believer in spending time at the pace you want to achieve, no matter if intervals or shortened TTs - have to get comfortable with how the pace feels.Sakly wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2024, 1:30 pmThx Keith. At least it gave me a good feel about the pace, as this would be around my go for in the next 2k. At this day in the gym I surely would have died before reaching 2k, but without sore body and fresh mind it seems possible to go for 2k at this pace. Hopefully.KeithT wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2024, 1:03 pmGood PB - I agree on a different day you could do more - the 4 minute TT is an odd one to figure out.Sakly wrote: ↑December 30th, 2023, 2:14 pmToday was the last real chance to go for the monthly team challenge, 4mins.
I have serious sore glutes and legs from Thursdays gym session, but I tried anyway, as tomorrow will be worse after todays gym session
I could improve my last PB by 17m:
As I was sure to not be able to rate up, I chose a high drag (160) to rate low and thought about 1:38-39, which turned out well.Code: Select all

On a recovered day probably a second faster could be in there. But for today I'm satisfied

Woo Hoo!fancyoats wrote: ↑December 31st, 2023, 9:26 pmHey all,
Another PB by default - my first FM.
