Welcome back to Steve H!

Image Water Fitness Harder Than I Thought...Iceberg Dead Ahead!

Back in April, I had hit a snag in my forward progress of knee replacement recovery and the PT gal suggested that I go to the therapy pool and walk laps to build up strength. This required getting over the whole swimsuit thing, finding a gym that had a pool, etc. Fortunately for me, there is a great gym nearby that Renew Active would pay for, and I went. Most of the time, these sessions are very Zen. Often, I have the pool to myself.

Now at the point of learning to use some of what I call the gym's intimidating weight machines like leg presses, step ups, and a few other items that look complicated. It is not quite like me going into Home Depot and wandering the aisles as my eyes glaze over with all the choices, but it is uncomfortable in its newness.

After the meter push at the end of the Holiday Challenge, I was taking a few days off from weight machines and decided to go to the therapy pool to do a mini workout of walking. It was snowing, and this made thoughts of the pool a bit tougher to get into the brain waves...but I went. I'd done a few laps, and noticed an instructor type putting kickboards all around the pool edges...yikes. Next thing I knew, there were a bunch of people in the pool and I was in the middle of a water fitness class! I'd never done this, have terrible sense of rhythm, but end of year seemed like a good time to try another new thing.

I confess that I didn't think water fitness classes would be as hard as other things. Ha. I was VERY wrong. It is hard to do jumping jacks in the water while turning in circles. I will be doing this again, because it is a great recovery activity...especially if you need to take it easy on your joints. And because it's good to do new things, uncomfortable things.

The 58 Lunie reindeer earned an approximate total of $351.00 and some change. That's an impressive contribution! Well done, Lunies![/size]
That's great!
Thank you.

I can hardly wait!

I'm going to stick with my traditional BA cocktail - one part Basil Hayden 10 Year Old Bourbon, one part Disaronno Amaretto, on the rocks.

Since this drink was born on a trans-Pacific flight back in the early '80's, I will also bring the only appetizer available at the time - small bags of stale peanuts.

Thanks all for a great year, and Happy New Year!

Yes, please post your drink orders (or private message). In case Guinan is battling the Borg, I will fill in as bartender.

And a little Guinan trivia that I just stumbled upon on Wikipedia...
Image
The character of Guinan was based on Mary Louise Cecilia "Texas" Guinan, a prohibition-era emcee and owner of the 300 Club in New York City. While the name was adopted, the characterization was changed to a worldly mystic, in line with Yoda from the Star Wars franchise. Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, had envisaged the character Guinan as extremely old, leading Whoopi Goldberg to suggest that she could be the ancestor of some of the other characters on the series.

The article on Texas Guinan was an interesting read also, including...
During the Great Depression, she took her show on the road. She attempted to move to Europe, but Scotland Yard threatened to board her ship if she tried to land in England, where she was on their list of "barred aliens".

Very interesting.

Hi All, thanks for welcoming me to the community!

I really enjoyed pushing myself for the Holiday Challenge and now I’m ready for the January Challenge. But, before we get to work again, I’d like to order a Dragonfly Cocktail 🍹 for the NYE Party! Cheers All!

Great job to everyone for the Holiday Challenge!! So cool to see the meters rack up every day. Concept 2 is a real class act for sponsoring events like this.

And many thanks to K2 for running all the stats and making the challenge extra fun with the reindeer and swag. Seeing everyone’s efforts really does encourage me to row and ski just a little bit longer :)

I’m pretty easy to please, so just a beer for me on NYE. If possible make it a Point Beer Snow Pilot. This is my favorite fat biking // snow biking beer … unfortunately we are snow-less here in Northern Wisconsin so far this winter. Guess I can have my virtual beer to go along with my virtual snow :/

A big thanks to C2 for making this challenge the most wonderful time of the year! Your faithfulness to this team is unparalleled and so appreciated!

I hope I’m not too late to put in my drink order for the New Year’s Eve party. I’d like a espresso martini please...a new discovery for me in 2023!

I’ll be bringing jalapeño poppers to share with everyone. Here’s the recipe in case you want to make these at home. It’s my personal version and easier to make than what you would get in a restaurant.

Happy New Year and happy rowing to all my LUNA-TICS friends!

All quantities of ingredients can be adjusted to fit what you have on hand or the ratio you like.

Filling Ingredients:
1 lb. Sausage or chorizo, browned, drained, and cooled
1 8 Oz. Brick Cream cheese at room temperature
2 cups Cheddar cheese, grated
garlic powder, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste

Other Ingredients:
15-20 Jalapeño peppers, cut in half lengthwise, seeds removed, stems left on
1 lb. Bacon, can be thick-cut, or regular, Cut in half so all the pieces are about the same length as the jalapeños.

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350° F
Use a cookie sheet or baking pan with an edge (there will be an overflow of grease to contain.)
Mix all of the filling ingredients together well.
Fill each of the half jalapeños with the filling. It’s OK to have it mounded over a bit.
Lay a strip of bacon over the top of each filled jalapeño.
Bake Approximately 30 minutes or until bacon is done.
Serve hot.
