No rowing while traveling
I've had my rower for about four years and finally got consistent with it three months ago. I'm rowing a bit under 100km per month.
We'll be out in the RV for a couple of weeks after Christmas in Florida state parks in the panhandle and I don't want to lose my momentum.
What does everyone do when rowerless? I did the rowerg finder, but the daily fee from the health club was a bit stiff.

Personally I like to take a break, but keep active with lots of walking. It doesn't help with momentum and keeping erg fitness, but I also think I benefit from the rest.
If you want to maintain fitness, there's lots of bodyweight training that you can do, with minimal rest to increase the effort.

Do you have a weight vest or are you able to pack one? And how does running typically impact you (I know it can put a bit more stress on some people)?mbutts4901 wrote: ↑December 19th, 2023, 2:18 pmI've had my rower for about four years and finally got consistent with it three months ago. We're going to be on the beach doing a lot of walking so that shouldn't be a problem getting our steps in.
Thanks for the rest suggestion! I didn't want to "fall off the wagon", but you're correct that taking some down time is a good idea.

I've never been a runner due to a congenital heart problem that I wasn't aware of. After a bit of open heart surgery, everything's fine now.
If I can't get over the guilt of missing workouts, I suppose I can pop the $25 for a day pass to the local fancy schmancy health club to get some rowing in.

Ouch!!! That IS quite steep! Sounds more like a week long pass, but I haven't been in a gym in many years.mbutts4901 wrote: ↑December 19th, 2023, 4:53 pm

I would recommend doing anything your body allows just to be active. Walking the beach and through sand can be no joke! Some other "low hanging fruit" if you have the access/facilities would be adding a weight vest to any walking and some simple body weight or weight vest circuits - my go to when I can get to a pull up bar is rounds of pull ups, push ups, and lunges. The times that I travel and am away from an erg for a few days, I hit a lot of that type of work; it takes me a session or two to get back into the erg groove but once I get the stoke and technique back, my fitness is still there.

Might take a little time to get there: a mile a day freestyle, water allowing. Swimming needs technique, just like rowing, and it's worth learning if not already in place. We're going to be on the beach

Excellent advice! Staying active is essential, and incorporating variation into workouts such as beach walks or using a weight vest is a wise way. Your dedication to bodyweight exercises and staying fit while traveling is admirable. Consistency pays well, and you're lucky to have established a pattern that works for you both on and off the erg. Keep up the good work!jcross485 wrote: ↑December 19th, 2023, 9:00 pmI would recommend doing anything your body allows just to be active. Walking the beach and through sand can be no joke! I do appreciate the kind words! Trust me when I say there are plenty of moments where I look for reasons to not necessarily train but focus on other things, but I also know that if I look at things more objectively, I know that I feel better both physically and mentally when I train consistently and that fitness is fitness even if not entirely specific.Pranav wrote: ↑December 20th, 2023, 8:24 amExcellent advice! See if they’ll trade you access for cleaning their machine and updating their PM5 ( take upgrade on USB). Most ergs don’t get maintained. Document the Drag factor before and after to show them what a 5 minute screen cleaning will do
