More snow coming our way, although we can't complain about snow totals just yet. There will be some mountain road rescues for the tow trucks, and those with big trucks and good winch systems. Met up with some friends from a ranching family in the Grand Lake valley area not too long ago. They were describing how they would go out with their dad in one of the prehistoric looking Range Rovers, and rescue vehicles from all kinds of predicaments. Terrain that lifted half the rescue vehicle up in the air, trying to get a giant tire hold on the next landing spot, just so they could reach a two wheel drive vehicle that shouldn't have been out without chains, cables, or maybe even at all! Their family appropriately named the Rescuer Land Rover "Lurch." Land Rover offers a driving school, all terrain experience where the instructor is in the vehicle with you to show you all the incredible moves these things can make...and it's probably a lot more automated than it used to be. In case you have your own Lurch, and haven't had to call on its superpowers..might be good to know there's a school for that.

The supernova Cassiopeia A (Cas A)...from the Webb Space telescope!

We have a few teammates who can and do throw out 100K meter sessions...and sometimes I remember to put a supernova image next to their names on the stats list. The latest imagery from the Webb Space telescope is so graphics worthy. The image might be new, but the supernova itself is 319 years old...then tack on some of the light years distance away...and it was a long time ago. Cassiopeia, in addition to being a fun one to say, is often a point of reference in our northern night sky viewing...five of its stars form the distinctive W shape.

And the charity of his choice gets the $2!!

Wickwar Brewing of the UK ceased brewing operations in 2020. Prior to that, one of their traditions was a Christmas brew...and one of those was called Tall Tale - which is how Dan Wickwar's reindeer got its name. Another UK brewery continues to brew a couple of the Wickwar brands, but not the Christmas ones as far as I can tell. However, the WIckwar pub site references:

THE TALE OF THE MAGICAL DOWSING ROD
Wickwar Wessex ale is part of Wessex folklore. Stories abound, telling tall tales of our beers & how they came into being. Take BOB, our classic amber ale; they say that Old Bob White told the tallest tales in the whole of England including the one about a magical dowsing rod bestowed with the power to lead a man to the perfect tankard of ale.

We don’t know the truth, but we do know that fables should be told over a pint.
