Concept Modell A

Post by rwalker44 » December 3rd, 2023, 4:07 pm

I have an all original Concept 2 model A. The one with the bike wheel. Works great and in good condition. I even upgraded some of the components, but have all the original parts.

I know this is a long shot, but is there any collector value for something like this? I’m ready to upgrade and doubt it has any value to the general user? I do think it’s pretty cool and hate to see it in the trash

I think your best bet is to list it somewhere that an individual who's thinking of taking up erging, but not 100% sure and doesn't want to spend the $$$ on a new one will see it. Other options might be contacting the coaches for a local rowing club (if there is one, either a school or non-school connected enthusiasts) or Facebook / Craigslist.

One thing I do to weed out the folks who aren't at least somewhat interested is to set the price pretty low, but not free. So, say, $25-$50 or so. Then, when you meet up and they offer you the cash, it's up to you, if you feel like it, to tell them that they can have it for free. I did that once years ago for a NordicTrack and it worked well.

Or, someone on the forum might be interested, say, for a relative. Since shipping is probably out of the question, you could mention where you are located, and you might find a home for it right here.

Good Luck

I would love to own your Model A but logistically it would be a challenge. Keep looking for a good home. You own a piece of history.

There is interest out there for Model A machines, often people who are into the history and have the space. Try posting on the Concept@ Community facebook site, where there have been postings by people rebuilding their Model A ergs. But don't trash it! Also where are you located?- that can make a big difference in interest. Good Luck!

In my opinion the Leonardo da Vinci aesthetic of the Model A makes it the best looking machine Concept 2 ever built.

I also have an original Model A. I don't have room for it in my new location, but I don't want to see it go in the trash. I tried to find if there was some interest in my post in this forum under "Model A needs a new home", but I did not see any interest. The unit is located in Staten Island, New York. @gvcormac if you are near me, I would give it to you if you would still like to own a Model A.

I've seen interest in Model A machines at some Cross Fit facilities so you might want to post there. Concept2 dealers have been interested in the past but they are in faraway locations and most of them have an A by now. Good luck!
