How To Calculate Your Patt Percentages
Training
I've come up with a calculation for the 30 and 60 minute events.

Basically this comes out to about .1 for each unit of percentage.

Thus my 91.4 for 30 minutes becomes 90.6, and my 90.7 for 60 minutes (during hm) becomes 89.8.

I will post more about this later on.
Training
I've been wanting to compare my events, thus today have calculated my PATT percentages for this year.

1:53.0 ... 1:41.0 / 1:53.0 x 100 / 1.153 = 101.0 / 113.0 x 100 / 1.153 = 77.5
3:45.8 ... 1:41.0 / 1:52.9 x 100 / 1.074 = 83.3
7:29.2 ... 1:41.0 / 1:52.3 x 100 / 1.000 = 89.9
19:44.6 ... 1:41.0 / 1:58.46 x 100 / .970 = 87.9
23:49.4 ... 1:41.0 / 1:59.17 x 100 / .964 = 87.9
7573 ... 1:41.0 / 1:58.844 x 100 / .952 = 89.3 - 1.0 = 88.3
39:58.8 ... 1:41.0 / 1:59.94 x 100 / .948 = 88.8
14709 ... 1:41.0 / 2:02.374 x 100 / .931 = 88.7 - 1.1 = 87.6
86:28.6 ... 1:41.0 / 2:02.97 x 100 / .925 = 88.8
3:05:35.1 ... 1:41.0 / 2:11.95 x 100 / .904 = 84.7

This shows me more precisely which events are my strongest and which ones it should be the easiest to improve. Based on the results, my 500 and 1000 should be easiest to improve, followed by the 5000 and 6000, and the hour and half marathon.

This also shows me that my 2k PATT for this year is very close to where it was with my 2K PB. It would be nice to better that time and to get the percentage up higher.

I did a marathon yesterday morning, rowing quite conservatively. It was very nice and went very well.

I didn't get the bit about subtracting stuff for the 30min and 60mins. I guess I have to subtract 2.5 from each of my percentages for those two.

Using the stats from my sig.

500m 01:39.6 76.54207463

1K 01:45.6 77.54009988

2K 01:50.9 79.29634641

5K 01:57.8 76.95843457

6K 01:59.8 76.11762583

30min 02:02.2 75.54803922 (73.04803922)

10K 01:59.5 77.58149102

60min 2:05.4 75.27991407 (72.77991407)

H/M 2:05.4 75.77809152

F/M 2:18.3 70.32103194

This was easy to do in Excel where you can just enter times and calculate a 500m split with a bit of simple maths. Then feed that into the conversation factors.

How were the conversation factors calculated? Are you sure that they're constant across the whole age/weight/sex ranges?
Training
Hennie and Citroen,

Thanks for sharing your percentages.

The conversation factors were calculated by looking at the range of top times across events, by age, weight, and gender. The conversion factors were shown to hold true across age, weight and gender.

Your method isn't really a fair comparison between all age groups. It ignores the fact that by far the most contested age range is 20-40. There's a much higher standard in these categories. Merely by rowing in a not very hotly contested category, you can obtain great looking scores. Mind you, this is true in general of the erg records.

Also, watts vary cubically with pace... I'm not sure where your "expontential" idea comes from.

I made up an excel spreadsheet that calculates all of this for you. It would just need to be updated with new world records and such.

http://www.permanentmarking.com/_aimg/PATT.zip

Let me know what you all think.

I'm not really following good business practice by using our web server for personal items
