W5S2: 4 x 800m / 2:00r @ 2:04.1

Targeted 2:05 which I thought might be a bit aggressive.

W8 S3 8000m

Image

Done as UT1, as usual on the second distance piece. Fractionally slower than the same session last week but very warm here, our met office is talking of heatwave conditions (which by UK standards is a couple of days at 25 degrees, yes I know, I know ... :D ). Very sweaty workout indeed, wish I'd weighed myself before and after out of interest. But felt fine throughout so onwards and upwards.

Lots of The Plan still to come. Beware of getting too aggressive too soon. That's how I've come unstuck on previous outings!

Well I couldn’t out-row it and finally it got me yesterday. Looks like I’ll be taking a few days off.

Feels like just a normal cold at this point.

Can’t wait to get back on the eeg!

W8 S5 3 x 1000m 3 mins rest

Image

Doing S5 out of turn to better fit in with the running programme. This is my least favourite workout and the one I usually struggle with, having crashed and burned on previous outings. Instrux were to go at same pace as last week's 7 x 500m (2:03.4). Almost but not quite but I'm not disheartened because a) I didn't feel totally spent by the end and b) still plenty of The Plan left to work on this distance. Given that there's an extra minute's rest this session should be doable, it's likely more psychological than physical.

Thanks for the well wishes, gents. <3

I woke up this morning thinking "I feel good! I can breathe through my nose! I'm going to see what it feels like to put a little distance in" I promised myself I would not push myself and I would stop if I felt short of breath or lightheaded or any of that. So I covered up the monitor and rowed a very very very slow 10k.

Image

very very very slow. I even stopped right at 5k for a drink of water.

And even though the next session in the plan is a 10k, I wouldn't say this counts as that session, since for that one I'm supposed to be trying for another PB. I feel like I've still got to work back up to that. Maybe I'll try to step back into the plan on Monday.

W8 S4 25 minutes

Image

Instrux say to keep spm to 24 or below and go slighly quicker than previous 8000m, at constant pace. Complied with the first part of that but not the second. I kept thinking, hr is low so I can afford to go a bit faster. I've already done S5 so that's week 8 done and dusted.

Hot and sticky here today. Room sensor said 70% humidity, weather website 80%. The effect of the workout was very much in line with yesterday's word of the day by Susie Dent (who here in the UK is a TV wordsmith and national treasure):

Image

How are you doing, FO? No ill effects after that sneaky 10000m?

Did another sneaky 10k today and accidentally got a new PB. Should I count it toward Week 19? Might as well?

I am feeling good, Rowan, thanks for asking - went back to work yesterday (in a mask) and now it's the weekend again. Gotta love a one day workweek!

I certainly didn't expect it either! It didn't even register as a possibility until midway through the last split. Then I was just gritting my teeth to hang on!
