W7 S5 3 x 1500m 2 min rests

Image

Instrux are to go 1 sec quicker than the 2000m reps of last week so aim for 2:09. Pete specifies 3 min rests but I thought that too long so cut it to 2. That said, I'll probably reinstate the longer recovery when the number of reps increases. Went well enough. The back pain of a couple of days ago has subsided to a gentle twinge. Dunno what it was but it seems on the way out and today served as a useful reminder not to lean too far back at the end of the drive.

That last rep was a real struggle. Even at the end of the third I was feeling pretty ok. But I felt like I hit a wall in the 4th - like I couldn't make my muscles cooperate or get any power. Disappointing.

Gah, sometimes it's just not happening. Take a day out and treat yourself, why not. Are you going to have another go or write it off as a bad 'un?

I’ll get another chance at this 4x2000 session at the end of next week so I’m not going to worry about re-doing it. It is what it is.

But yeah, I’m resting today and probably going to go easy on the next couple - the plan has a 30 minute and a 10k as my next two sessions coming up. I think I’m just going to cover the monitor for both of those and go real slow.

I ignored the pacing advice and just covered the monitor and took it easy. My husband had a fever yesterday and it turned out to be covid. Last night I slept apart from him in the basement and I've got no symptoms but I imagine I've been exposed and don't want to overtax my system.

Some of my favorite rows have been when I flipped over the monitor. I hope you avoid becoming ill!

Done at UT2. Slight easing of pace towards the end to stay below 120 bpm but nothing unexpected. Felt good throughout. I sense that I am now getting into the meat of the programme.

For a while I have been trying to shed half a stone or so to dip below the hwt threshold. For the past week I have been weighing in at 11st 11lb, ie right on the line. Another lb gone this morning. I'll wait until I'm consistently at 11st 9-10 lb before changing status in the logbook but it's looking good.

I've never had covid but I know people who have and they didn't enjoy the experience. Fingers crossed for you!

Did another super slow and easy row with the monitor covered. Slept in the basement again - the futon down there is not comfy at all, so not great sleep.

Yeah, I'm actually really enjoying rowing this way. I breathe through my nose the whole time and it feels super relaxing. I feel like this is maybe what steady state is supposed to feel like? Definitely feels like I could row like this almost indefinitely.

Not sick yet! Not sure if I should try the intervals tomorrow or now. it'd be 4x1000. I'll play it by ear, I guess.

My whole household had it last year in May. It wasn't terrible for us but of course I'd rather avoid it if I can. I was the last one to get it that time. Hopefully It'll skip me altogether this time!

Congrats on the lightweight status! (borderline though it may be for now)

Aim for same pace as last time (2:08.5), slightly quicker on final rep. One more rep this time. I increased the rest from 2 to 3 minutes, as per The Plan. Probably just as well. I wasn't struggling on the final rep but it was getting tough. Which is doubtless how it's meant to be. I don't wear the hrm for intervals but for these longer ones perhaps I will in future.

Out of interest I weighed myself before and after. 11st 11.6lb vs 11st 10.2lb.

How you feeling, FO? Keeping the dreaded lurgy at bay I hope?

Now both my kids have it too. So I tested myself last night even though I’m still feeling fine (but pretty tired/run down bc I worked like 48 hours this week and not been sleeping great bc basement). I’m still negative. I can’t decide whether to do the 4x1000 today or not.

Should I row it?

Hmmm. That's a tough session although a short one. Tbh in your place I would play safe. Even if you're negative, the OH and kids are riddled with it and you're being exposed. And you say you're feeling a little run down. I'd give it a day or two, you don't want to let covid burrow deeper into your system than it would otherwise, by tiring yourself further with a good thrash on the erg. Even if it blows out the cobwebs and you feel better for it.

Disclaimer: I'm not a medic, just a random bloke on the interwebs. I could be talking complete and utter BS, and it has been known ...

Well I'm a fool for going for it, maybe, and if I'd seen your good advice before maybe I'd have changed my mind, but it actually felt pretty great. I figured "I'm not sick yet, I'll just see how it goes and if it feels terrible I'll stop." I am hiding in the basement from the rest of my family, might as well erg.

And a very excellent session it was too, especially that final interval.

My ex-wife never listened to me either and it did her no harm
