I think your biggest risk is if you uncover some serious damage and they blame you for causing it. Otherwise they'll likely either ignore you or tell you to stop. Best to be inconspicuous.miket-nyc wrote: ↑August 4th, 2023, 12:26 amI'm wondering how easily you can get away with that kind of maintenance. I almost always row at home, but recently in a New York Sports Club on Manhattan's Upper West Side, I worked out on a Concept 2 whose chain was so stiff it was barely usable and made all kinds of noise as I rowed. If I go back there again I plan to bring paper towels and oil. The managers will either be thinking, "Good, I'm glad somebody's finally doing that job," or "Who is this guy and why is he monkeying around with our stuff?" It takes such a short time to oil a chain that I think I can get the job done before anybody is alert enough to try to stop me.gvcormac wrote: ↑August 3rd, 2023, 9:13 pm
Don't the updates equalize the menus? In a hotel gym I saw the old menu (app/hrm connection way different) but I was informed an update would fix that. I didn't do the hotel's update for them, though I've been known to repair other hotel C2s. Including but not limited to lubricating the chain with olive oil, pounding loose a seized brass bushing at the handle end of the chain, and, of course, replacing batteries.

I honestly don't think that's true. They *should* be identical, but they just aren't. My PM5 has a different menu to at least 3 others that i know of, and they're all up to date. I've emailed C2 about it, because i want to get to the bottom of the inconsistency. I'll let you know what they say.

I have the feeling C2 has silent upgrades in their productlines. When you look at the PM5's page, it says:stevegaspars wrote: ↑August 4th, 2023, 7:45 amI honestly don't think that's true. When you look further (see https://www.concept2.com/service/monitors/pm5/firmware) you see they have 4 different hardware versions. The version you need for your machine type depends on the hardware version your PM5 runs.

I have three recent (i.e. green logo) PM5s and they all require different firmware versions. One came with my bikerg (2 yrs ago). One came with my skierg (1 year ago), and the other I bought as an upgrade for my model D (same time as the skierg).JaapvanE wrote: ↑August 4th, 2023, 8:06 amI have the feeling C2 has silent upgrades in their productlines. my 2022 erg's pm5 is hw version 907; so firmware 212 & that's reporting as the latest version for me.
I think the date is US format so 272022 would be be a Feb build.

Sorry, force of habit from another forum that actually links back to the full post and where overquoting is frowned upon. I'll keep that in mind from now on.

Re: C2 model D with pm4 vs rowerg with pm5 ?
So i wish to apologize to everyone in this thread. I did some more investigation and i've discovered that the menu's i've been seeing were in fact old firmwares. I was under the impression they were up to date because on one machine ErgData said it needed an upgrade, and the other it didn't. Turns out the firmwares were over 4 years old. I also asked someone who had just bought a new Erg, and they said their menu was different to mine - turns out it was a miscommunication and they are both identical.
I've also got confirmation back from C2 that all the PM5's menus are the same on the newest firmware, and that the bluetooth firmware update works on the 3 newest models, but not v1's.
I feel like a moron. I was so sure.
