Only my third time golfing since October of last year, and it was such a hot day. The heat index on a golf course seems intense. I was on Hole 12 of my local course, and naturally I ended up in a sand trap close to the green. I looked up once I got to my ball, and saw this hawk laying maybe 8 feet from me. It appeared injured, so I called the Pro Shop to get them to call their wildlife people. Beautiful red tail. I wasn't going to mess with that beak to check it out closer though.

This was taken yesterday at Sun Valley Ranch area near Grand Lake, CO. It's a community lake. The East Troublesome fire took out many, MANY homes and trees two years ago - and some residents are just now getting homes rebuilt. You can see the burned trees on the hillsides. These kids were racing each other - what a perfect summmr kind of thing to do!

Two thoughts for the day:

1. If your state is anything like most states, renewing your Driver's License is more a matter of paying your licensing fee on time. No tests are required here (there are exceptions, and there are point systems that preclude getting a renewal) - even when new laws that impact drivers, and pedestrians and cyclists are passed. That seems like a missed opportunity for education - although I'm sure it is a cost savings measure. Just seems like we could all do this online.

2. There is a point in kitten development where the kitten realizes the dogs get treats and he isn't getting those treats. Now there are three faces that look to get a cookie....lordy.

Dog Days Challenge
August 1–28 Starts NEXT Tuesday !!!


From Concept2 Challenge page: The Dog Days of Summer are almost upon us! What better time for a challenge?
Naturally, some of us believe that EVERY day is a dog day...or a cat day...or both! This is a good chance to put some meters out there in celebration of whatever kind of pet you might have, or celebrate those you have in memories. As much as I love the two goldens and kitty that I currently have, I will always erg this Challenge for the original Kona. In my heart forever.

Complete the Dog Days of Summer challenge by finishing each of the following four distance goals in the timeframes indicated and log them in your online logbook:

Week 1, Aug. 1–7: 10,000 meters
Week 2, Aug. 8–14: 20,000 meters
Week 3, Aug. 15–21: 30,000 meters
Week 4, Aug. 22–28: 40,000 meters

Distances are cumulative (you don't have to complete 10,000 meters in one sitting, for instance), and all meters—rowing or skiing, indoors or out—count. Plus, this year, we've added an optional level for kids and adaptive athletes. We hope you'll join us!
