Good morning - happy Friday everyone!
W5S4 - a 20 minute row. Instructions say to judge by how you feel, and either to just focus on technique without worrying about pace or to try to go a couple seconds faster than your 7k pace (2:32.9 and 2:33.5) from earlier this week. I was feeling pretty good so pushed a little.

Hey thanks! It felt pretty good - definitely working hard towards the end, but compared to 7km it felt fairly short. I'm kind of itching to try going longer distances but trying to stay patient and stick to the plan.

I actually find it really difficult to rate higher than 19 or 20, it just feels like I’m racing up and down the slide, so I'm curious what I’m meant to do in a couple weeks when Pete starts asking for a lower stroke rate. Just stay where I am and try to build more power in each stroke I guess?

BPP W8S4...3x1km/3'R...🎯1:46.6 from the last 7x500m session but that was never going to happen. HD thoughts were strong throughout, starting the 3rd was a win, finishing it was a miracle.

BUT....when I did this 1 month ago the average was 1:49.2 so still some progress but getting to the sessions/pace now that is challenging the mind and body. How much more do I really want to push 🤔

This is how it should be and has to be to progress.

You are the only one who can answer that.
From health perspective it is not necessary to push further and get better. Motivation or personal goals are another point of view you are aware of for your own.

Anyway, good session and progress!

This looks like a great session 👌 where you've had to fight for it physically and mentally. I find that unless I have a long term target (eg: sub 7 2k) then pushing on these type of intervals becomes really difficult as the Pete Plan progresses.

Thx.....that's what I am starting to feel....the harder it gets the less appetite I have for the pain B) . No real target either apart from overall general fitness. It may have just been a less than optimal day but the target looked impossible from the start really.

W2S1 supposed to be a 5500m row. Sundays are my longer row days so I just did a 10k at 2:22, r22. Felt pretty good and hopped in the pool after to cool off.

Did 8*500m today averaging 1:53.0 with target pace of 1:53.4min. I just passed my first year on the erg and it feels like a long time since I did my first 6*500m at 2min pace. Let's see where year two brings me to. Good amount of work for that 40W!

I needed roughly a year to boost my 2k by 32W. So this is the time it takes to improve 😄

Keep it up. My gains, while not as steady, were still significant in year 2.

Not sure on the rest for the 500s, but consensus is that for stronger individuals 4 x 1k r5' is 4S/500m slower than 8 x 500 r 3:30. Te Plan starts off conservatively for the shorter intervals as designed for those still learning to row. I suspect that this was intended to step up the pace closer to what you are capable of. If you were going quicker than intended on the 500s you would always struggle to do this!
