Disassemble for transport (buying used)

I'm looking to get back into indoor rowing. Used to have a C2, but can't remember exactly how the front leg is fastened. Basically I'm looking to buy a used Model C/D/E, and to fit into my 4 door sedan, I may need to remove the front leg, via one of the following:

1. Remove the leg at both attachment points to the fan housing
2. Remove the floor crossbar from legs

Are either of these easy to do? Are they fastened with torx screws? Is there loctite from the factory? Thanks.

I can't speak for older models, but the RowErg is all torx, no loctite. The legs can come off (see the assembly manual: https://www.concept2.com/service/indoor ... d/assembly). Also, please remember you can disconnect the rail from the flywheel....

The part number for the Row Erg shows the torx, but also "blue" Loctite on some of the fasteners:

(I doubt the OP will have much trouble removing the leg fasteners, even if they do have Loctite.)

The srcews had threadlock, I couldn't remove them with
the C2 torx driver and had to use a ratchet wrench.

Yeah, that's definitely threadlocker, good to know, thanks.

Really depends on the size of the bolt and the driver. I doubt the C2 '6-lobe driver' (what the rest of us know as torx) could get it out - more likely the bolt's torx head would round.

Good catch. Thanks. I must say, I didn't notice the loctite during assembly. Might have been it didn't have it, or that the sheer joy of finally owning a decent rower made me forget.

I think it depends on the model you end up buying.

All this torx and threadlocker stuff was news to me. I'm pretty sure (but not 100%, because it's been a long, long time since I assembled mine) that the Model C's used hex-head bolts and no thread lock. If you're so inclined, once you know what you're going to buy you could dig around C2's documentation for the assembly instructions or look at the parts diagram. That should tell you what you'll be facing when you go pick it up. Of course it's always better to have a tool and not need it, rather than the reverse, so another option is to load up your tool bag, and that way you'll be prepared for just about anything. (other than a stripped head, in which case you'll really have a job on your hands)

Yes, the wrench allowed to me to apply much more force while pushing down on the socket.
I don't think heat is needed, blue Loctite (243) allows disassembly with hand tools.
Green Loctite (270) requires heating.

Yes, blue can be broken loose with hand tools, but the issue is the size of the fastener. With smaller fasteners, especially torx (as opposed to a hex head), it is easy to strip the head when trying to break the threadlocker bond. A little heat on blue loctite reduces force required by a lot. In your case, you used a socket, but if you used a little heat (even a hair dryer is sufficient for blue loctite), the C2 torx driver that didn't work for you, likely would have worked.

But I'll pack both - socket w/ torx head and heat gun, to cover all bases.

If you buy an earlier model it has allen key heads not torx.

Mine is a 2004 D and has the allen key heads.

Picking up a newer Model D tomorrow. Can someone please confirm the size of the Torx screws used to secure the fan assembly legs? The size will probably be written on the Torx driver that came with C2.

Picked up a RowErg today. For anyone who searches this topic and finds this thread, while blue loctite is used on the screws, a 3/8" drive T27 torx socket will get these loose without any heat and without any damage to the screw heads, as you can bear down on the socket with one hand while turning ratchet with the other hand.
