Was feeling good during the day, so decided to just bite the bullet and put the HM in ergdata to get this in this season

my old pb was set November 18, 2022: 12th percentile

Code: Select all

Time Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M	Hr
1:45:00.9	21,097m	2:29.3	105	661	24	161
New PB - 23rd percentile

Code: Select all

Time Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M	Hr
1:39:27.3	21,097m	2:21.4	124	725	25	174
0:12:23.7	2,650m	2:20.3	127	735	26	169
0:12:23.4	2,650m	2:20.2	127	736	26	173
0:12:26.2	2,650m	2:20.7	125	731	26	174
0:12:25.5	2,650m	2:20.6	126	732	26	176
0:12:27.1	2,650m	2:20.9	125	730	26	178
0:12:53.0	2,650m	2:25.8	113	688	25	172
0:12:24.6	2,650m	2:20.4	126	734	26	173
0:12:03.6	2,547m	2:22.0	122	720	25	183
Had optimistically aimed to break 1:39:00 (2:20.7 split); you can see where I hit a bit of a wall, so nearly HD'd so many times after that, but achieved my aim of a sub 1:40:00 at least.

Absolutely emptied the tank on this...

And by leaning a little to the left periodically, I was able to mitigate the pain in my right glute/hamstring...
That's a very good improvement and I can see how much that must have hurt by your finishing HR

Thanks All!

Seems that I've started to get my CV system, as not once on a breathing side did things feel stressed - so now just to develop more physical endurance. It was the empty legs that was nearly my downfall yesterday; I am sure the less than ideal reduced volume the past 6 weeks hindered me there.

I did manage to find a little something extra in the last 90s that pushed the HR up - with all the almost HD pauses though, overall pace for the split was poor.

Just improved my 2K from 7:26.7 to 7:26.2. Yay !

Took 9 weeks (granted, perturbed by a flu, one very minor surgery and one 1 week biz trip with no training).
At that "pace" (0.5s in 9 weeks) my wet dream goal of 7:00min 2K will be reached in 472 weeks i.e. almost exactly 9 years :D :D :D

Absolutely agree to the first, but this time after 9 days off due to covid, I got much faster back to routine and had no feeling of being weak or had any problems on the erg or at the gym. I know the feeling you describe, but this time it was very different from that 😄

Love an extrapolation. You have to factor in 52 surgeries and 52 bouts of flu to hit that target. If you don’t achieve either of either of those you may hit the 7 min in a few years less. 👍👍

But at the same time, 52 surgeries in 9 years would likely be 99% percentile, any age & gender :)

Jokes aside, on the bright side I managed to avoid overdoing the first 500m and die in the last 500m, or at least not as much as my previous one.
Note to self: yeah, still need to improve that.

Today 5k Team Oarsome challenge today.

Planned for yesterday, but turned out another way, as Friday morning my left wrist started to hurt. It aggravated extremely until evening, I could hardly hold a glass of water. No idea of the cause. Saturday morning it was a little better, but no way to go for a row. Today morning it felt 99% back to normal. Also no idea about the miracle cure either. I think this was related to the parallel bar dips from Wednesday during gym session, but I don't mind as it is gone now 😁

So I could prepare for the 5k and hoped to be fresh for another PB, as I had two full rest days. Unfortunately I woke up today with a stiff back, so I needed a mobility session before.
After this I went for ~2k warmup and then targeted 1:45 pace again:

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M
17:39.6	5,000m	1:45.9	294	1312	27	174
1:44.8	500m	1:44.8	304	1346	28	165
1:45.5	500m	1:45.5	298	1325	27	170
1:44.8	500m	1:44.8	304	1346	28	172
1:45.3	500m	1:45.3	300	1331	27	174
1:45.3	500m	1:45.3	300	1331	27	177
1:45.3	500m	1:45.3	300	1331	28	177
1:46.0	500m	1:46.0	294	1311	27	178
1:47.9	500m	1:47.9	279	1258	27	178
1:48.2	500m	1:48.2	276	1250	28	177
1:46.4	500m	1:46.4	291	1300	28	179
As you can see, I am not there yet. First 3km it went ok, but already from the start of 3rd km I wasn't convinced that it will work and thought to back down the pace a bit, but pushed through with hope I can stand it. Obviously I couldn't 😅
Anyway, it is a tiny little new PB, could get another .9s off.

This is my finish of the season, so it gets me a good feeling 😎

As you can see, I am not there yet. First 3km it went ok, but already from the start of 3rd km I wasn't convinced that it will work and thought to back down the pace a bit, but pushed through with hope I can stand it. Obviously I couldn't 😅
Anyway, it is a tiny little new PB, could get another .9s off.
Well done, Sascha all things considered this is a great result.

Every time I've done a 5km PB I have always wobbled at about 3km in, so this doesn't surprise me.
