Red Line Rowers (RLR) May CTC notification:

May The PHORS Be With You

4 x 1k/2'r - first rep from a standing start. Subsequent reps as you like. Record the time for the 4000m.

PHORS stands for Post-Heart Op Rehab Special. I underwent open heart surgery in February to fit a replacement heart valve. Obviously I haven't been able to row since then apart from a couple of paddles for the April CTC in the past couple of days. But my heart surgeon says that I'm now recovered sufficiently so that I can start again properly on 1st May, and I have chosen to use 4x1k/2'r as the key session in my bid to return to my pre-op form (and hopefully significantly exceed it now that I've got a heart valve that actually, you know, works).

I asked my fellow RLR teammates if we could put it forward as RLR's choice for the May CTC to give me some added encouragement and support on my long road back. And I was met with a resounding and unanimous "YES".

Hope you all enjoy it as much as I'm going to :D
Now, as I know the background, I will have even more fun to go for it! 💪💪
Wish you a nice restart!

Hi! Can someone please explain the point system to me, and how they are assigned each month? Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place, but I don't see it on the C2CTC.com website or on the first page of this thread, and I'd love to understand better.

I believe points are based on the position of the teams ~1 boat each month......so looking at the current leaderboard on the website has SPU: Te Waka I in 1st with 101pts

THANK YOU! I went back and looked at a few prior months. I was missing that there were more than 100 boats in many of the months, and that's where the even greater scores came from - I assumed there were somehow some extra points being assigned somewhere, but the points didn't add up to the placement of the extra boats on the team. If extra boats counted somehow, the Diamonds would be unstoppable!

101 full boats is incredible! And there's still some days left in the month.

Also....If a team has a good 2nd boat they can push down another teams 1st boat thus reducing that teams score further.....so the more strong boats you have the better too.

Te Waka continued their good form from March to win again in the April challenge. Finishing first and third in the table suggests they have plenty of power to bring to the new season. This time, they missed the overall lead by just twp points.

Congratulations to MAD for holding on to the top position they established early in the season.

Always consistent, Sub7 take the bronze. Well done all three teams.

Welcome to the Argentina IRT.

The Diamonds again logged sixty teams in the flotilla. Thank you particularly and all teams in general for participating in the CTC this season.

Future Challengers:
June - Team Oarsome
July - SPU Te Waka
August -Isenhurst Rowers

Hi all,

I run Mercian Fitness, a very small rowing community that just about manages to get 2 boats together for the CTC.

I am a little upset that The Diamonds have made a direct approach to 2 of my team members to join them.

Who ever is sending the emails to recruit my members could you please stop.

The CTC is fast becoming a Diamonds competition as it is.

I am trying not to be a misery here but recruiting people like this just seems a little unfair.

Couldn't agree more, Ian. I don't know of any other team on the circuit that does this.

Cheers,
George

You are misinformed Ian,

I run The Diamonds (Over Sixties Erging Group) and we have most definitely not made any approaches to to anyone who shows an affiliaition with another team.

You are making it sound like I have approached members of your team in the CTC and tried to get them to change to us which is absolutely not true as I have most certainly not done any such thing.

If they don't show an affiliation then there is no problem and you should make sure the people that show you as your team also show you as their affiliation.

Teams do not show on the C2 lists so there is no way of knowing if someone is with one and as most people put their team as their affiliation as well then it's fair to assume they don't have a team.

I have never sent an invitation to someone on a team list and never would.

When I send an invite I do say that if they do have a team then sorry to have troubled them and please feel free to ignore me....as many do including my wife! 🤣

So there you go nothing I've done is unfair so you can now cheer up and stop worrying ...and maybe have a word with your team about making sure they put you as their affilaition so you can do better in the affiliation standings ...if they are logging metres then they should be putting them to your team total😀

If you have further concerns then please message me in private as that is the best way to discuss it.

Thank you for replying.

I will ensure that they affiliate.

Of course they can choose who to row for.

I do think it would be more fun with you having different teams rather than one big team with loads of boats but that is my problem not yours.

I'm glad i could help Ian, the Affiliation Standings is a good competition for motivating you team as everyone can relate to counting up the metres!

All teams are welcome to try and get more people to join in and compete on the CTC, my team are very keen to do it regularly as we have an internal league based on CTC scores, it's handicapped by gender, age and weight so Lwt ladies in their 80's can compete on a level playing field with male Hwts in their early 60's which is very motivating.

It runs monthy and accumulates over the year so no-one wants ''nil points'' by not putting in a score one month...or any month!

We have a lot of members as people see us doing well on the rankings, the C2 team competitions and the CTC plus get to ''a certain age'' and want to be more active... so apply to join us and all that qualify by age are very welcome to come on board and share the fun....and we have a lot of that.

We are an open and welcoming group, word has spread and I get applictions every day..they keep me very busy!

Our proud boast is that we are the oldest team in the competition and the older we get the more competitive we become!

Most people congratulate us on encouraging people to take part in the CTC as it boosts the competition and keeps it vibrant as at one time it looked to be dying off but these days numbers are growing nicely and I don't just mean in my team.

Good luck with your team Ian......it's a fun competition 😀
