During the 32km row i actually reached and tried to adjust the 'zip' when i realised its all in the mind and to shut down that voice in the head.Dangerscouse wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 1:15 pmaegis wrote: ↑March 7th, 2023, 12:45 pmOne thing I did notice is how the mind starts playing tricks on you when you get tired, small discomforts start appearing when the cause of the discomfort (in my case a zip on my tights when I'm erging outdoors, however I wasn't even wearing it!) is not even present.![]()
Mind games are massively magnified when you're tired. It's hard to explain how much until you experience them as you're always a bit cynical before you really feel it.
This is why I always bang on about getting used to the discomfort as much as you can without overdoing it. The ability to recall moments when it felt horrible, but you carried on is really important.
I do one set of intervals a week either speed or endurance with all other training being SS. Nowhere near as fast as you guys but its nice to see improvements coming in slowly and surely.
More importantly as i look back at recall the sessions when i went too fast and blew up, to now being able to pace the same sessions properly, improving and dealing with the discomfort it is a huge confidence booster. There is no pressure and I'm doing it for general fitness and racing only against myself. Pretty sure i will get the FM in the bag this year.
