Concept 2 "Triathlon"
Concept 2 "Triathlon"
Simple race - 5k rowing erg, 5k skierg, 5k run.
I'm thinking anything under 1-hour would be a good time. Folks that can go sub 18 minutes in all three events would be exceptional.

That would be good times, what with a week between the events ? to do all three one after the other with no rest, thats a time for superman.
Thats a no can do for me no matter how its run. it took me 12 minutes to "Run" 2.4Km and that was after weeks of training. There was not a single person on the test running 2.4Km anything near 9 minutes. From memory the best time was 9:30.

Re: Concept 2 "Triathlon"
A couple of years ago I saw a crossfit games triple 3 workout that includes a rowing leg. It is a 3K row, 300 double under jump ropes, run three miles. This workout hinges on the jump rope skill / efficiency with that exercise will have the biggest impact on your time. First time I did it, it took me just under 45 minutes. I was fairly practiced with the jump rope. Since then I have gotten the time down close to 40 minutes. Mostly by getting more efficient at jumping rope.

Re: Concept 2 "Triathlon"
Could currently do both the 5k row and ski in under 18 minutes with probably only limited rest (less than 1 minute) but would be 21:00 to 21:30 ish on the 5k run. Would be close to an hour with transitions. Definitely quicker than 62 minutes!dcpattie wrote:Simple race - 5k rowing erg, 5k skierg, 5k run.

2k row
2k ski
2k run
Sub 21 minutes would be the gold standard.

Re: Concept 2 "Triathlon"
I'm imagining them done with zero rest - like a triathlon. Another possibility would be doing them "decathlon" style on different days.with a 3 minute transition time allowed between events?A Sprint version could be 2k x 3.

Yet another option could be holding the running event so it's a "pursuit" like the Nordic combine where your start time (for the running event) is determined from your combined row/ski time. First person to cross the finish line (during the run) wins!
Row on Friday
Ski on Saturday
Run on Sunday
Re: Concept 2 "Triathlon"
Ok, I finally did this. Zero rest. I'm lucky to own both so doing them at my home is convenient. My first attempt was a test, I'll do another "full out" test in two weeks.
5k rowing erg
18:58
5k skierg
19:54
5k run
20:40
T1
18 sec
T2
8 sec
I started my Garmin for the run right off the skierg.
59:59
I was surprised how marshmallowy my legs felt at the start of the 5k run, you really do use your quads on the skierg!
So why even bother with the 5k run? This serves as an important "body weight" adjustment in a more simple way than using a calculation.
My goal for my next attempt is 57:59 or faster.

Re: Concept 2 "Triathlon"
I think we will need to rethink this since C2 just came out with the new BikeErg. I'd love to see them update the iPhone App so there is a row/ski/bike option that records performance seamlessly without needing to spend time reconnecting to each device.
I still think incorporating a run leg is important as it serves as an equalizer for lightweight athletes.

Re: Concept 2 "Triathlon"
I don't have the skierg (no space for it) but will def consider doing a row, bike, run effort at some point....when I'm a bit fitter at all three!

Re: Concept 2 "Triathlon"
PM5 now has builtin "ergathlon" -- bike, row, ski in any order. One of the combos is 10k, 5k, 5k (10k bike is similar effort to 5k ski/row).
Unfortunately the c2 logbook kms show up as "multierg" so don't credit toward to the challenges, which allow only one of bike, ski, row. But they count in your overall totals.

Re: Concept 2 "Triathlon"
I just looked. I see it has "biathlon" as well. Very cool!! I have the rower and skierg. I'm finishing up a workout plan for the skierg, then I wanted to try a row/ski/run.

Re: Concept 2 "Triathlon"
I, also, recently became aware of the wireless ergathlon and got quite excited. I immediately tried it out and had a 50/50 success rate (via Bluetooth) without dropping a leg. I sent off an email to C2 support asking about connection problems, and also inquired about multi-erg meters counting towards challenges. I received two replies from different departments. The first said the meters count for challenges unless it's a single-distance challenge, like the International Women's Day Challenge. The second, from tech support, suggested using ethernet cables to link the PM5's for more reliability, saying the older PM5's were more prone to drop outs. The ergs I have access to are all PM5's dated from 2020 thru 2021.gvcormac wrote: ↑March 18th, 2023, 7:33 amPM5 now has builtin "ergathlon" -- bike, row, ski in any order. Anyway, I used ethernet cables; it worked, but I'm not willing to hard-wire the ergs on a regular basis.
I did test the results out, and the meters DO count towards challenges--also your life-time and season totals. The logbook even counts the bike-erg meters as half for the challenges. But the meters don't accrue towards any of the ergs.
So, if you just started erging and became totally enthralled with the ergathlon, which is pretty neat, you could lead in team challenges, season and life-time meters, and accumulate zero meters on the bike, row, and ski ergs. Call me shallow. but I want my milestone swag.
I'm sure that'll change--small steps forward.

Where do the meters show up if they don't accumulate? See below from my history page.
Or, are you saying they'll be online (in the history) just not on the actual PM5s themselves?
