That's the way to go about it. I used to and still do base everything on my 30min results at various rates. It tells me what I should be able to achieve for all other distances above 30 mins. You do need to do these tests in the same training period as there will be a time where you need to go backwards again to move forwards if that makes sense.
Yes, for me it makes sense, absolutely.
It was also a kind of sighter how it feels to maintain a pace around 1:50-1:51 as I plan to start with that in my HM approach (probably a bit slower) and then ramping up the rate.

So stop to take shirt off, adjust fan, bathroom break, clock still ticking and you still pull a personal best….squeeze in some breakfast too?
Musta felt good! Nice work
If I would have thought of a TT - be sure, I would have prepared well before

Unintended 10k PB by exactly 2s during an r24 AT session
Started with r22 for the first km to warmup, then ramped to r24 to work at ~AT level. Felt strong, so dialed in at (log shows even a bit below) old 10k PB pace, which was ~1:51, to see if I could hold that.
After ~2km stopped for a short time to take my shirt off. Fan switched on after ~4km.
It was "easy" to stay at this pace with r24. And for the last 2km I thought to grab the new PB and increased pressure in the strokes a bit.
Code: Select all

Old 10k PB was done at r30 and heart rate average was 175. Now 6 strokes less and heart rate average 15 beats lower. Seems to be an improvement
This is a great improvement and goes along with your continued advancement on the Erg. You could prob take quite a bit off this distnce.

Thx Keith, I feel how it gets "easier", really nice feeling.
No idea how much I could shave off, if I would attack a PB.
Now it's time for 60min and HM for a PB anyway (except 5k to go for at women's day - probably going for a TT as well...). After that I can attack other stuff again. In addition, I am already at 96th percentile with this time, so goal for the season already

Love it! I remember the days of breaking PBs just about every time I tried, it's a fun wave to ride.

Thx David
In a TT I would warmup before and start with shirt off already (even if it only takes 4-5s or so)
I can switch on my fan from the rower, I built a remote switch nearby.
To be honest, my latest 30min session (mid of December) was at pace 1:48.6 and I could have rowed longer at this pace. Knowing this I would go for 36:10-36:15 in a TT for 10k
