Whoop, whoop and way to continue with the orbits! Congratulations, Ron, on achieving ANOTHER five million meter erging season! We wish you many, MANY more milestones and celebrations! (His lifetime meters are at 76 MM and some change!)

There are SO MANY things that are truths about the Concept2 community! And one of those truths is that there is nothing like the potential of FREE stuff (that you earn with your meter deposits) to drive up participation rates! At the height of Reindeer Season, I lamented that the overall Concept2 universe participation was down a bit from previous years. Collectively we earned a little less Charity dollars. The Lunies participated quite well, and many reindeer bounded about the landscape - so our Lunie participation was good.

Fast forward to the springtime Mudness Challenge, and hooboy! The overall participation for this Challenge is at 25,249 individuals. Wow. WOW. 52 of those are Lunies. The numbers will decrease, but for a getting started number - that is really amazing. We'll see if it hits 30K before the fifth day of the Challenge is out. Because the numbers may change, but the patterns do not. So keep going, Lunies! You are off to an incredible start! Our overall Lunie participation rates among those who erg regularly is pushing 60 percent!

danwho has spent a lot of time refining the data capture that generates the participation rates. I had offhandedly suggested that we might want to look at our team enthusiasm aka participation, and he immediately set about working on that dataset. The participation is sort of a fun fact for me - I can obviously see when we have a LOT of participation, but it's good to see that some of the Challenges have a greater appeal (i.e., FREE stuff).

It is most likely a timing issue of when I grab the numbers vs when you post them! Depending on the day, there can be quite a few hours difference in when I run the update. If you are posting your meters in segments as you work on reaching the 10K, I could be getting an incomplete look - but that still should equal out in the next day. We’ll check and make sure there isn’t an electronic hiccup! Congrats on the multiple 10Ks !

The two-thirds to one-third breakout on 5K vs 10K is a pattern each year. It generally slides to a 90/10 by the end of the Challenge. For the Lunies, there's something different about this team! We are usually pretty close to 2:1 and that does not change as the Challenge comes to a conclusion. So hang in there, and burn those days off wisely!!

I'm sure there are SOME of you Lunies who moo at the cows, too - with or without the dog in the car! Cartoons that involve mooing have a special place for me, some because of the few years of grad work I did with cows...and more because when my daughter was a vocal program student as part of her Denver School of Arts program, she had to go to voice lessons. These were invariably after school events that we'd have to drive to downtown Denver for, and she would practice her warm ups on the way to the lesson. Then came the day that she had to warm up with the sequence of "me may mah mow mooooo" with heavy emphasis on the moooo. I tried not to snicker. I really did, but the second time the moooo came around, I was in full giggle. It's a family joke naturally at this point, and I send her all the mooo cartoons. We like being cow bilingual.

March Madness Continues!

Some Lunies are powering through the days...with several having completed 6 or 7 of the days already! Still waiting to see if a Lunie wins one of the daily prizes! I believe Carol W won last year...and almost every year there's a Lunie winner! Good odds I'd say!

Overall participation has climbed to 40,976 individuals at the 5K level, and 13,486 at the 10K level. For Lunies, it's 61 and 30. Hang on, though, because the cliff edge is approaching!! The exponential growth of number of participants is incredible in the last few years. I note that the Lunies were at about 60/30 in 2018...and I got better at making the graphs (but time for that is more limited).
