All ergdata to Fitbit? Heartrate not there.

Post by mvermett » February 18th, 2023, 5:28 pm

It would be ideal to get all the heart rate info from ergdata over to fitbit so that I'd have an accurate workout picture from my rowerg. When I sync ergdata over to fitbit, the data is sparser than what's in the logbook. Looking at fitbit's site and board, they suggest it's the partner not using the full extent of the API? if the API supports this.

Incidentally, what I DO get in fitbit is the heart rate from my fitbit monitor, which probably isn't nearly as accurate as the garmin monitor, which is what I use to stay in my desired zone during workouts.

Yes, I send my data over to Fitbit as well. The only decent data in Fitbit afterwards is that it knows I rowed for X minutes. As you said, the hr data Fitbit captures is from the Fitbit wearable. It is about worthless on the Erg. I use Polar for true hr data to capture zones etc. while on the Erg. Also use Polar to capture resting hr each morning when checking HRV. Fitbit resting hr is fairly accurate,I believe, and is interesting as it captures data 24 hrs and uses some formula to determine resting hr each morning. My understanding is you’re never going to get HR data from ErgData to Fitbit.

Assume your Garmin is a chest strap? If not highly recommended.

Thank you. At least you confirmed it's not me. Yes Polar band while using the concept 2. When I first tried this I was thinking my fitbit sense was overriding the data on my HR chest monitor so I took the fitbit sense off during the workout and that didn't work either. Polar is definitely more accurate and obviously what one would pace with on the Concept to stay in zone.

I use the fitbit for walking, eliptical, etc. and have been happy with it. Just something I have to live with, but I do work in the sw industry and know lots of geeks, so maybe this would be of interest to them as a fun project.

Thanks much. Happy rowing.

The data you want can be very easily downloaded from Concept2 in CSV format. It includes heart rate, split, times, watts, etc. Your friends can automate this by screen scaping or they can use an API to pull data from the C2 log (or from the PM5 if they want to replace ergdata). See this forum --> viewforum.php?f=15&sid=7a800bbe5d6caac48d762701ef542f22 for details and use it as a place to post "how do I" questions.

I'm not aware of a way to have Fitbit consume this data in any format, or display the data if it had it. Think that will block your success. Having the heart rate data is not the same as having Fitbit choose to use the actual HR and Calories data from an external source to replace their own computed HR and Calories in either their display or in their data totals, resting HR computation, etc.

I use fitbit for 24x7 and polar h10 for rowing. I push my rowing workouts to fitbit, but I use the C2 log to look at rowing data. I used to use spreadsheets to look at rowing data (download CSV data - 1 click, import into a spreadsheet 2 clicks, look at graphs and relationships like watts/stroke using spreadsheet mechanics), but found after a month or two I could predict everything the spreadsheet would tell me from the C2 log entry so basically I stopped looking at it.
