Try the Real Time Loop?
Try the Real Time Loop?
New feature in ErgData went live today - The Real Time Loop.
It's a 1K (or 2K if BikeErg) graphical loop depiction for a just row/ski/bike workout. Other users on the Loop show up as icons and you can pace with them or against them.
I've been using it in trial mode for a few weeks now and it's been a nice change of pace from number watching during my undefined workouts. There's something engaging about see others from around the world out on the loop with me.
For more info see the C2 blog post about it https://www.concept2.com/news/ergdata-f ... -time-loop

Re: Try the Real Time Loop?
Really no idea why C2 keep playing with this kind of thing and do not just get behind EXR or RowPro, seriously software for the indoor rower is still like 10 years behind Zwift.
Been saying it for years now, there is only room in the market for ONE decent indoor rowing bit of software as there simply is not the numbers online to support 6 or more bits of software that at the end of the day do not get the number of users to fund anything really good.

Zwift is a technical dynosaur to be honest. Their graphics engine is outdated, and it shows. Only thing speaking for them is the many cyclist using it.Carl Watts wrote: ↑February 17th, 2023, 5:20 amEXR or RowPro, seriously software for the indoor rower is still like 10 years behind Zwift.
EXR just technically leapfrogged Zwift in the last update. They flipped the switch on cinematic mode (as the Unreal engine provides this for real cinematic use as well, this looks great), and Unreal 5.2 is released shortly providing improved cinematic foliage rendering. Racing mode is promissed to be released in the March or April update, and new worlds are on their way. EXR is moving fast now, and I don't think RowPro can keep up.
But why C2 thinks this extensions fills a need is also beyond me.

I tried the Real Time Loop earlier today and I really like it!
It's fun!
I only use Ergdata, I don't use any other software.

You are obviously not using Zwift, I don't care what graphics engine its using it still looks better than anything else by miles.JaapvanE wrote: ↑February 17th, 2023, 6:08 amZwift is a technical dynosaur to be honest. Re: Try the Real Time Loop?
I actually do. Can you say the same from EXR?

Re: Try the Real Time Loop?
I tried it this morning. 1st attempt went pear shaped and the app locked up. Had to do a hard reset on my phone to move off the Real Time screen on the ErgData app. After completing my intended session today I went back and tried it again. No problems on the 2nd attempt. Not sure I see the value but to each his own. I mean, I can’t chase people around a course doing 90 minutes of SS.

More interesting than just the numbers. Easy to just start rowing whenever you want - no need to set up a time or distance with anyone.
EXR or Zwift are probably fun, but ErgData is free.

Re: Try the Real Time Loop?
That's another problem with software uptake these days, people expect Apps and software to be free.
You really don't get much until you are prepared to start paying for it monthly.
I guess it all comes down to how you see the value, over here the monthly Zwift subscription is less than a packet of cigarettes.

Re: Try the Real Time Loop?
I just tried the loop. Doesn't do it for me, notwithstanding what some YouTube influencer said.
RowPro is OK, but usually it is just me and the stats.

Re: Try the Real Time Loop?
I tried real-time after I completed the WOD. It was enjoyable, quick, simple and straightforward. I’ll probably incorporate real-time session in to a weekly routine. I think the 1k course layout gives a different perspective regardless of how many others are on the circuit. I do think they could make the blue pace dots brighter. All told for many of us this is a fantastic addition to ErgData
Re: Try the Real Time Loop?
I haven’t used it yet but intend to give it a try. I still can’t train properly so might make my current very slow and boring sessions a little more bearable!
I can why people would like it tbh.
Someone who doesn’t want the competitive side of the paid for ‘race’ apps but maybe wants the motivation of keeping up with someone faster or even using the pace boats to improve in a way that’s slightly more graphically interesting than what was available prior
Likewise Strava Premium or whatever doesn’t offer me any value over what I want and get from Garmin Connect and my Fenix but that’s me.
And that’s exactly the same with ErgData. It gives me just what I need, but, I only use the erg for myself. I’m not also training on the water so I am only ever trying to beat me yesterday or last week or whatever and as it stands what’s currently free covers my bases.
Anyways, We all have different needs, wants and uses. I think it’s great they have added something extra for ‘free’ and who knows where they will eventually go with it.
I’ll give it a try. Maybe I’ll like it or maybe I’ll never touch it again but either way it’s good it’s there. IMO at least.
Has C2 stated this was to fill any need? Genuine question. Have people asked for something like this or have C2 added it just for some extra ‘value’.

So whilst I don’t expect free, I happily pay for anything that I find offers me value, I don’t personally find any value in zwift style virtual racing type apps. Granted there may be much more to them than that.Carl Watts wrote: ↑February 17th, 2023, 5:05 pmThat's another problem with software uptake these days, people expect Apps and software to be free.

Re: Try the Real Time Loop?
I'm missing something; I have an iPhone SE. "Real Time" doesn't show up on the bottom ribbon. C2 says ErgData is updated automatically, my version is 2.0.15(1). Help?

Re: Try the Real Time Loop?
Your app is out of date. Current version is 2.10(2)
Go on the App Store and check for updates or…

Re: Try the Real Time Loop?
Easy. Got it, thanks. I'll give it a try and see what it's all about.
