Moving map for concept 2

Post by nrg710 » January 24th, 2023, 8:20 am

Are there any products out there that will simulate rowing a course that's been plotted on a map?

I want to plot a course on Google Earth and have the distance output from my PM3 (I can upgrade to PM5 if needed!) plotted along the path. Doesn't have to be real time but that would be cool if it was.

EXR wil simulate a real environment, but will not deliver a map.

I've seen EXR, but I don't like that it's limited to a few bodies of water.

Essentially, what I'm looking for is a pre-programmed path (probably in KML format) and then for the metres output from the PM3/4/5 to show how far along that line I've travelled. Apart from doing it manually in Google Earth, I can't really see any easy way of doing it.

I seem to remember someone doing that here a long time ago.

Yes, I saw that thread- it's a shame that Ulu's project seems to have died a death. If I were any good at coding, I would have a go at updating it. Unfortunately, I'm not. Looks like- for me at least- the only way to do what I want is to do it manually in Google Earth.

There is a for-fee site that has rowing courses and maps your progress on the course based on kms you row.

Someone who used it suggested it to me, but I wouldn't find watching progress that way motivational. I don't know if they do custom courses.

Here's the link: https://www.theconqueror.events/?utm_so ... tcreferral

Edit: I see this is a referral link. It doesn't go back to me. Trim it if you like.
