As far as will bike meterage surpass the rowing machine... I've actually thought about this...and know that there are some things, like numerical equity, that matter to me .... so, when I calculate that I have 10 MM bike meters - that means I have 5 MM towards an orbital total! My total meters would be 16.5 MM plus 5 MM for the 21.5 towards half an orbit. Concept2 lumps all the bike meters into the lifetime meters as a 1 to 1. I disagree with that approach. If we are taking the time to pound bike ergers over the head time and time again that during Challenges our total meters must be doubled to be counted, then why wouldn't we believe that the total meters should similarly be counted?! Yes, I will happily take the 10 MM bike erg prize, knowing that it is being given at 5 MM overall...but that's different than what I see is kind of an integrity issue. I'm sure Concept2 has logic on this, but it eludes me.
I think this is K2's post, not David's ... but, I agree with them, both ...

... the bike meters should register half, for everyday logging, as with challenge meters. When I first got the bike erg, I halved the meters I'd biked, then entered them by hand. I did that for about three months, before it got to be a chore! Bike meters accumulate much faster than rower meters, so, there is an advantage to earning 1:1, bike:rower.

... but, the latest "atmospheric river" storm to blast through California, took out our power from 8:00 pm on NYE, till lunch the next day. It started getting chilly after a couple of hours, so everyone went to bed early, to keep warm.
So... 🎵 Dancing In The Dark 🎵... maybe next "atmospheric river", but we can definitely do Champagne in the Dark.

And I also wish BikeErg meters could be more compatible with other erg meters.

Chip, Norma and Ron are blazing some meter trails in the Challenge! Each has reached 100K ! Great that Concept2 has tied the participation potential of two concurrent Challenges...tapping into both markets to get a two-fer! Thank you to the 62 Lunies helping us get to 15th (out of 604 teams) !

Image Another Episode....Bunny Trails of the Mind! (we interrupt our regularly scheduled programming)

danwho reminded me that the upcoming Chinese New Year is the Year of the Rabbit, and suggested that this might bring forth more Bunny Trails. The rabbit is known as the luckiest animal of the zodiac - which then started me thinking about the use of the rabbit's foot "charm". Not so lucky for the rabbits...but there is quite a history involving witches, fertility, luck and money perceptions. Chances are that you might have even had one of these lucky charms as a kid. The stories of how communities pursued those they thought of as witches are truly scary. But I digress. This episode is about your community and its public libraries. How's that for a mental leap?

Back in Alaska days (or more likely Alaska darknesses that are true for this time of year), the base library saved me when I was 9 and 10. There wasn't a lot of television reception, and none of us in the US had 24 hr tv. We had test patterns. When you're a military brat, you move a lot, you leave friends and family, and you're plunked down in a new school often in the middle of the school year. You do learn resilience, and how to adapt. But it is still hard. I'm pretty sure I read almost every book in the youth section of the base libary. I'd take my sled down to the library, get a pile of books, and repeat this a couple of times a week. The librarian worried that I didn't like the books, and asked my parents about this. No, she reads them all. Under the covers with a flashlight sometimes too. So libraries have always been important in my world.

Fast forward to more recent history, and many of the libraries are faced with fewer staff, fewer resources, and an entirely different way of getting information, sharing information, and interacting with users. But people still want to go to the library in person. Our county administrators decided to reduce the availability of the libraries a few years ago, and residents were so upset that Friends of the Library came into being here and pretty soon there was a mill levy just for the libraries. And with that money, wow! Things are truly changing.

I've used the study rooms for meetings at local libraries for years. When I walked into a local library yesterday for a meeting, I was amazed. The layout of groups of sound blocking modules where people could chat quietly has replaced the rows of tables and chairs. (You're starting to see this modular approach in the modernized airports, too.) The library, important in so many communities, is truly a community hub. No librarians or patrons saying "QUIET please." If you haven't been to your local library lately, do put it on your list of 2023 activities. It's good to see what the staff recommends for reading, and see the large amount of digital media that you can borrow! Might find some NEW listens to accompany those erging hours!!

Image 16th Overall !!!!!!

Every day is a reminder not to wait to make life full of the things that are on the bucket list, and btw DO have an updated bucket list. But it's not just that. It's also a call to continue to spend time developing friendships across multiple generations. This can be entertaining on several levels - eye rolls and all. And so it is on this day, like many others, I am grateful for the Lunie community and all the celebrations we share. You are truly positrons in a world that needs them!

Thanks to the 85 Lunie Challenge team members who are pulling the chains and turning the wheels to put us into the 16th position on the Challenge roster!

So. How do you know when you just miss the pet you recently lost, or when you're truly ready for a new pet and its personality?! Jesse the Cat was a mainstay through two generations of Golden Retrievers. He didn't quite make it to Christmas. He was a great cat. Haven't visited the shelters yet to see who needs a home, but I dreamed about it...that's surely a warning sign?
