Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Just completed my very first 7k in week 5. Man, I don't know how you people do +10k. The funny thing is that I can easily ride my bike (outdoors/gravel) for 2 hours at +16 MPH.

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
This isn't the only issue, but you do need to compare the wattage for each activity.
Having said that, erging is way harder than "on the road" cycling.

What is it that's got you concerned. Is it boredom? Fatigue?
For boredom, you need to find what works for you on the lengthening rows. I listen to music. Some like podcasts.
For fatigue, you need to be focusing on efficiency and relaxation with these long rows. They should not be exhausting.

Thanks. Appreciated the input. I think it's a bit of both. I get bored easily, which is why I have a difficult cycling indoors. As a former D1, quick-twitch athlete, and never liked endurance, I'm trying to build up my endurance -- one of the main reasons for purchasing a rowerg. I can usually out-spring my cycling buddies, but fail miserably for anything longer than an hour. LOL. Did my first 65-mile gravel race last year -- took me 6 hours and kicked my butt.mitchel674 wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2023, 6:40 pmWhat is it that's got you concerned. Is it boredom? Fatigue?

As far as long rows, I'm trying to manage my heart-rate, stroke/minute, and stroke distance. My first 7k row data are: 34:29.2 total, 2:27.8 pace, 20 S/M, and 136 HR.

I'm aware. Erging definitely feels more difficult, unless I'm climbing here in Utah. ha

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
I was partially in the same boat when I started, but I was 80lbs above college days and recovering from alcoholism. I have a TV on the wall and watch weather or old soccer matches (volume off) with music on. It definitely took time to re-wire my brain. I set some short-term and long term goals. My first goal was to get through the BPP doing all 5 sessions each week. Years later, I'm going through the BPP on a skierg.justaute wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2023, 7:25 pmThanks. Appreciated the input. One thing that took me a while to realize was that fast-twitch athletes actually perform better with a lower DF. There's a video on it somewhere. I'm usually between 110-120 unless I'm sprinting.

BPP 14.1
Target 2:18.5 for the 1st 7500, then speed up. I pushed quite a bit to get it below 46'.

Very interesting. That S/M is very high. My Df is usually around 122, with the damper setting at 5.RayOfSunshine wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2023, 11:30 pmBPP 14.1

The rate is quite normal for skierg. Not comparable to rowergsjustaute wrote: ↑January 4th, 2023, 2:55 amVery interesting. That S/M is very high. My Df is usually around 122, with the damper setting at 5.RayOfSunshine wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2023, 11:30 pmBPP 14.1

Week 7 Day 2 -
My DF was 100, I lowered it a few weeks ago from around 115 to get a lower hr during the ss pieces. Any reason to adjust it? Separately, took two videos any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

On the videos, they look good to me. I've still never taken one of myself. I'd suggest starting a new thread in the forum and ask for feedback from the pros. This forum provides incredible feedback!

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
BPP 14.2 on the Ski - very pleased.
I've set my sights on a sub 45 10k. I've got about a minute (3s off pace) to shave off. 53 sessions (10.5 weeks) to go, so I'm pushing hard on all sessions unless it says to back off.
I started out the final interval wanting to average under 2:14s, then 2:10s (after about 750). In the final 6-700, I realized an 8:30 2k was possible. That was probably 95% effort.
