The winter challenge has evolved into being a tradition in my life. This challenge will earn me my 14th Challenge Pin. If anything, I can gauge how as I get older my split times are not as low as they used to be and my stamina and endurance has let up some. It is the natural progression of ageing ... all is good. Being involved with the team has brought so much enjoyment.
Speaking of tradition, I decorated a tree for the first time in 20 years.. this is a bit late but please enjoy an old fashioned holiday scene....

Jamie, loved your video, your antique ornaments, and Holly.
Happy Holidays to you and happy rowing in 2023!

Starting to see a few more virtual drink orders - that’s good!
In absence of hearing back from Jane (aka Guinan), I’m asking Danwho to be our bartender! Thanks, Dan!
Virtual team party! Love this annual happening, as our just rewards after the past month of extra effort. Danwho, please save me a split of Champagne, and, for AJ, a Bloody Mary. Many thanks ... I'm making a.batch of empanadas, and will set aside a virtual platter for the party.

Sounds like the virtual New Year's Eve party is going to be a rockin' and rowin' one! I’ve always ordered up a mudslide, but this year I’m going to change it up and order a great big lemon drop martini! I’ve been perfecting those all week, and I think I’ve hit it! Thanks for picking up the bar orders, Dan! Happy new year to everyone on the team!

Yes! Let's celebrate continuing traditions and new beginnings!
This time I would like to order for the virtual party a Negroni and Sorin a Screwdriver (the kind that you drink
). Thanks Dan!
Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year to all!
And happy rowing!
Andrea
P.S. To properly celebrate tomorrow, I just passed 12M lifetime today

Ditto! Thanks and best wishes for many more rowing challenges!
Your tree reminded me of my childhood when the smell of Christmas was always associated with the real candles lit on the tree.
They were every year on the Christmas tree branches at my Mom, until very recently...
You are so right about the challenge tradition. This year I will get my 13th pin (missed a year due to a torn ACL and two while traveling to see my Mom).
I am not looking at the times any more, I just try to meet the challenges and enjoy the team camaraderie catalyzed by Jan!

My family also had a Regina! I have to admit that lighting the real candles made me want to reach for a nearby fire extinguisher...! Thank you for sharing this!!

This is it! Time to wrap up the year!
Polar vortex, snowmaggedon! Was quite the trip down from the mountains - with lots of HUGE ice chunks in the roadways. The snowplows had been through the neighborhood, though...and plowed in the driveway with a few feet of snow blocks you could use for an igloo. Was a bit of an extra workout - not complaining! Many years ago, a teammate (Duluth Moose) mentioned a yooper scooper. I had never heard of one of these items, much less seen one! A few years later, I did see one in our local hardware store...and I bought it. Saves your back and moves a lot of heavy, wet snow from patios and driveways to other parts of the suburban backyard. So, in the interest of perhaps helping others, I'm sharing this - the item pictured is not exactly a yooper scooper, but same principle! Sure helped move all the crunchy snowplow leavings. Best snow removal decision ever. Didn't capture yesterday's numbers, so am sure to have combined some would be palindromes. Alas.
And so the winter storm warnings continue! BUT first...
