600m PB.

Obviously not a ranking distance, but needed to get a 500m done for the CTC and didn't want to make a full on 500m attempt. But I didn't save myself any pain by doing 600m, instead!

125m: 1:09.2 49
125m: 1:12.4 40
125m: 1:13.2 43
125m: 1:16.0 38
100m: 1:18.5 42

600m: 1:13.7 42
(500m: 1:12.8) 42

Pacing was pretty inefficient. The lingering taste of iron in my mouth two hours later confirms that the effort was there, though!

Nice pacing and you broke 2:00 average pace!!
Thanks. The 30min was one of those rows that I often did as my slow row, but never fast(er). There are many others left (60min, HM, FM, …) Maybe now during the break there will time to try one of those longer distances.

You should have negative split from that first split. You were obviously coasting from 125m onwards

very nice and not a huge drop off in the final 100...I'm not a math guy but looks like proportionately less than in the previous split?

Thanks Stu, Im confident of getting into the 15.x bracket, hopefuly over the next week, I have a session today followed by weights tomorrow, then my plan is to atack the 100m sprint 24th (assuming i am allowed on the erg that is!) which will be a true test, fingers crossed.

Long term ill return to endurance rowing but will continue with weights and see if i cannot build the strength necessary to get into the low 15/high14s maybe. Who knows could be deluding myself

High 14s will be an immense effort, but you've definitely got to aim for it.

It will be, its difficult to know how far one can go, its easy to get carried away, but as i, and others have found out, with consistent training in the right direction, signfciantly improvements still come.

I need to be able to generate about another 80-90 watts to put me in the right ballpark for high 14s, compared with my last effort

Im just outside the top ten for my age/weight of verified pieces, if i get under 16.0 Friday i will be in the top ten, so i am quietly confident there is more to come in that direction.

Whether i can get into the 14s only time will tell.

#TOC today - 2k

I did not feel great to go for a TT today, as my legs, calves and also a bit upper body were not fully recovered from my Monday gym session. But I planned it, so I did it 😄

Based on my experience with the recent 500m I increased DF to 144 in expectation that I can reduce the rate to ~30 throughout and rely a bit more on my strength.
Plan was to go with 1:41 flat.
To have more detailed split data I programmed 250m splits:

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M	HR
6:46.5	2,000m	1:41.6	333	1447	30	171
0:50.5	250m	1:41.0	340	1469	30	160
0:50.6	250m	1:41.2	338	1462	28	168
0:50.7	250m	1:41.4	336	1455	30	172
0:51.0	250m	1:42.0	330	1435	28	172
0:50.8	250m	1:41.6	334	1448	31	174
0:51.1	250m	1:42.2	328	1428	31	174
0:51.2	250m	1:42.4	326	1421	32	174
0:50.7	250m	1:41.4	336	1455	33	175
I felt very early that I was not going to get 1:41 done the whole race, so reduced the pace a tiny bit, but tried to stay below 1:42. Obviously not possible all the time, but satisfied with the result 👍

I am proud of it, but I know there is more possible!
Hopefully I find a day feeling fresh and fully recovered during my vacation next two weeks. This race was definitely limited by power, not by cv system.

Nice going again but was always going to be a substantial PB.

Makes me envious seeing people posting PBs when I'm just getting older and slower
