Df120/18spm/2:05 feels pretty hard now…
That's a stroke worth 10 Watt-minutes. Not the sort of thing that will feel light, especially if you had to stop erging for a week or two.
Every year the water in my local lake gets heavier too.
08-1940, 183cm, 83kg.
2024: stroke 5.5W-min@20-21. ½k 190W, 1k 145W, 2k 120W. Using Wods 4-5days/week. Fading fast.

... Please cease digging this hole deeper...
So you say to the topic poster that it cannot be true that he has to work harder for the same pace after renewing chain and sprocket (because he equalized the drag factor).
I recall addressing Tsor’s spitballed suggestions of possible sources of a [hypothetical] problem assumed to be resultant from mechanical refurbishment of OP’s rower. I don’t recall inviting you to put words in my mouth. Go play with your analytical models and leave the grand inquisitor impression to those old enuf to shave.
James’ observation reopens the question of the condition of the human rower influencing perceived exertion. Oft times at off times we are simply not as fit as our fiddle.

Where in the first Topic Post did you read that he stopped erging for a week or two? From what I have seen on Youtube, renewing the chain and the sprocket is hardly two hours work.
No wonder that topic posters often do not come back on the forum when the local grandees simply dismiss observations and questions as delusion.

Neither did he write that he stopped rowing, switched chain and sprocket in two hours, restarted same day or day after. It's all speculation, if refit error and drag factor have been excluded; but if Occam fails, there's always Bayes, data allowing.
But the only data supplied was:
Df120/18spm/2:05 feels pretty hard now…
180W at 18 suggests an experienced and effective oarsman, so we believe what he says. Which is "now". So evidently he can still do it. But when was "then"?

Thanks everyone!
Had a few more short rows.
It feels smooth but very heavy!
(Like I’d imagine a heavier boat would feel)
Drag factor checked every time on pm5, 120.
(Bungee not changed or adjusted routed correctly)
I cleaned the inside of the drum & the screen when I changed the chain & sprocket, (it wasn’t bad, it’s still about 5 1/2 for df 120 about the same).
What is/are the best video for changing the sprocket & chain?
I may disassemble it again!
I reduced training for ~ 1month ie not following a program but still regular rowing as I had a windsurf competition.
(For reference my 2k is 6:56 working towards 6:52)
Thanks again!!
All the best!

5 1/2 sounds high to get 120 DF. On my C I get 124 at 3 on a clean machine. As far as I know 3 gives the feeling of a boat on the water and that you should get similar on a D if I remember correctly. Have you got the correct model selected on the PM5?

Thanks!
Where do I select the model on the pm5?
I updated my pm5 firmware to the latest version when I changed the chains & sprocket.
I don’t know if that would have changed anything.
My model d has always been 51/2 for df 20 on the display df screen.
Thanks for the you tube link!
All the best!

Before you take it apart try removing the flywheel and see if the stroke action is free. You are only pulling against the bungee but should be very easy.

You’re welcome!
Hope you find it soon. Is the chain sitting in the guide pulley(s) correctly?
