Finally something to post here, 3m+ PB on my HM time: 1:26:16.

I've lost a fair bit of weight since my last attempt, I can definitely say this felt easier than last time. HR about 70% for the whole distance, was never out of breath.
This is a big chunk - and HR at 70% shows that there is much more in the tank 💪🏻

10k TT as proposed by WOD:

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M
36:58.6	10,000m	1:50.9	256	1182	30	175
7:24.0	2,000m	1:51.0	256	1180	31	168
7:24.7	2,000m	1:51.1	255	1176	30	173
7:25.3	2,000m	1:51.3	254	1173	31	175
7:26.3	2,000m	1:51.5	252	1167	30	179
7:18.2	2,000m	1:49.5	266	1216	31	182
Some days off as I felt not good. Today wanted to go for a steady state, but then saw proposed WOD and thought why not. Give it a try sub 37!
So pace plan was 1:51 throughout. During row I dropped off the pace a bit sometimes to get some deep breath and then reengaged the machine. Last 1k I turned the screw a bit to get under 37 💪🏻👌🏻
42/1009 of my age group - satisfied 😎
Ooft that place. Well played!
Thanks much. At half of the row I was very confident to get sub 37 as targeted. Felt good 🙃

Well done. HMs are all about building confidence so it looks likely that you can take another chunk off this, despite this being a massive improvement already.
Cheers Stu. I've been churning out very relaxed 10Ks recently (between 60% and 70%) so I was moderately surprised by today's result.

I'll be making a more concerted effort on times in December and January, but today was still satisfying.

I wear wrist bands - without I would get a wet handle already nearly from the start.

I will wear wrist bands when doing a longer TT to try and stop some of the wet handle issues.
What FAN or fans are you using ? Sopping up the ineffective sweat (the sweat that doesn't evaporate) is not the answer. Getting enough air flow so your body heat is carried away is better. Go commercial 18" or 20". Many brands, some are quite noisy, some ok. Most look like this. Other options exist. Mostly I run it at low, bad days need medium. Never used high. Pointed at my back about 3 feet away (close enough to change speed without getting off rower, far enough not to hit at finish)

I use a basic box fan but my house is air conditioned so it's never very hot.

Modest 10K PB: 38:24.6.

Shaved 14 seconds off last PB. Didn't start off as a PB attempt, just kind of snowballed (in a good way).

Whenever I read "modest PB" it always reminds me of Thoreau's quote - "it's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see". I see a PB, and a big improvement too. Your personal best is all that matters. 👌

A piddly PB compared to some of the flyers around here but I'm pretty proud of this one:

I'm in the middle weeks of the beginners Pete plan where you repeat the 10k row several times. I originally was doing them at SS pace but set a goal to meet or beat the 25th percentile of ranked workouts in the logbook for my age group. I've been steadily increasing the pace each session and today was the day.

I was worried I'd have lingering malaise or other side effects from the double dose of flu & bivalent booster shots Saturday but I felt good and was able to push the pace with a few k left.

Image

Final result puts me at ~71% of ranked entries so goal achieved!

all my longer distance PBs don't start off as PB attempts...seems less intimidating then

but more importantly....14 seconds is not a modest PB - it's massive...well done!

Don't downplay your result. As you mention you're only halfway through the BPP, so you can't compare to others who have been rowing for a lot longer.

Well done, you should always be proud of achieving your personal best result

Any PB is worth celebrating.....congrats.

The BPP is a great plan (I did it when I first started out) and it can create excellent progress.
