I'm hiding in the BikeErg results for WOD :D

I will preface this short story Iit's your entertainment segment) by saying it is good to live in a community where you know your neighbors! The early evening hours and into twilight have been filled with wild kingdom hazards around here. The skunks may wait until it's mostly dark before they prowl, but in the decades that I have lived in Colorado - I've never NEVER had a rattlesnake in my yard. It's been way too warm here, and was just giving a little extra water to a vine (thunbergia)...and something moved at the base of that plant. Can't react too much because the dogs who are almost always perusing the yard when I'm out there will surely come investigate. One must resist the urge to yell SNAKE or FIRE.I took the photo so I could see if it was good/bad snake. Ooooh. Really bad snake. Western diamondback. For all that I like to take care of most things, I started calling neighbor(s) to deal with this snake.

First ask: Gary, do you deal with snakes?
Gary: Not as a hobby. Why?
Me: Snake here. Sent photo.
Gary: Looks like a bull snake.
Me: I think it's a rattler.

Next ask: Will you help deal with a snake in my yard?
Response: I wouldn't know what to do, and husband's out of town this week.

Finally called neighbor who is a police guy. This to me is similar to calling in the Marines or National Guard. He came over- with a fan shaped rake. Guess this is good to keep snakes at bay. Confirmed yes it was a two ft rattler, and traded rake for shovel. Off with its head, and the now non-regenerating snake bits went over the fence and into the deep grasses from whence it came. I will admit that I wore garden boots instead of flipflops to check the yard this AM.

ImageAll in a day's work, right? So. How's the WOD Challenge going for you?! Not many Lunies giving this Challenge a try just yet, but there is still time. Will test out what happens if you can't meet the cadence requirements for the bike erg challenge today. Will Concept2 accept it as a good try, or will the buzzer sound?!

Made it through - accepted by Concept2 (no buzzers) :)

This is the first time I've tried the WOD's, and there must be something to it. For the first time in months my VO2Max (measured/calculated in the Garmin ecosphere where most of my exercise data reside) increased by a point :o

Also helps to break up the routine - keeps it interesting/challenging.

Had a couple of nice rest days between group rides, so I thought I'd knock out a quick 4k test on the BikeErg tonight. Managed a 1:34.8 pace, / 410 watt average, finishing in 6:19.2. That's just over 10 seconds faster than I was this spring!

I've gotten so used to the free stats I get on the BikeErg that I'm finally breaking down and buying a power meter for my road bike. I just ... like metrics.

Fall, and the Fall Team Challenge, is rapidly approaching! When next in your logbook, scroll over to the teams heading and then down to "join" in the Lunie fun! There is something very powerful about participating as part of the team - and you all "get it" since you've joined the affiliation! The Challenge awaits to pit ourselves against the other Concept2 Universe inhabitants!

I had a friend, who traveled down from Canon City to have lunch with Eric and I last week, tell me that lunch had cost him over $1,000! I guess he was really impressed with how I built up my rower and the club I belong to ("Luna-tics"), so much so that he bought one that night! :D
I invited him to join us on the Luna-Tics and to take part in the Fall Challenge with us. I hope he does! So if you see a new member named Gary, from Canon City, CO please give him a warm welcome. :)
