Golden Cathedral of Grand Staircase-Escalante area is on my bucket list. Anyone done this hike? It looks like dehydration could be an issue....

Meanwhile, back at the ergs! Congratulations, Lunies! We've reach 15 million meters in our team meter piggy bank!

Hi David- thanks for the shout out! Had a little set back in February with a heart attack. Dr finally gave me permission to get back in the saddle. Will take me a while but I’ll get back to my old numbers. It feels good to get back to rowing.

Whew - not even 10 AM and we're hitting 94F here. The dog walkers and others out for a quick morning walk are usually out there at daylight...before that, one assumes there are critters...like the javelinas, bobcats, and coyotes. I am especially grateful for the air conditioned rec centers here! And that's where I found that the city is hosting a lot of its summer "camps" so the teens and minis can get some of the same experiences we might have all had outside! The cavernous recreation center set ups allow for those high pitched squeals of delight at being able to make those high pitched squeals (what kid does not take advantage of the echo chamber that buildings and tunnels can provide!?). Funny thing was that the teens playing basketball were being just as vocal...but in a lower register! I thought it was great! Mini kids are those that are probably 5-8, and my favorite was a girl playing ball hockey while wearing a purple tutu skirt. As I made my 30 laps around the walking track, the kids- and the ever patient young coaches provided good entertainment!

Will have to add the Golden Cathedral trail to my bucket list, too. Ed and I really enjoyed our visit to three (Arches, Bryce Canyon and Zion) of Utah's Big 5 National Parks back in early May. Sounds like we'll have to plan another trip to Utah.

Many times Lunie teammates have erging goals that we never have visibility of...until they get to their goal...and another one is set! Our palindromic pro Norma has hit a big milestone - and naturally she has made sure that the number was a palindrome!

K2, having milestone goals gets me on the rower on days I might otherwise decide to skip.
Dan, you always find the clever graphics. I used to be a fan of what Ed called "the Jack Bauer happy hour."

Whoooosh! That's the sound of you and the erg flying through yet ANOTHER month!

Image Red Bird of Paradise
Apparently there is another kind of bird of paradise, one not endemic to Arizona. Perhaps that is the one the song referred to when the lyrics said " May the bird of paradise fly up your nose!" These bushes are red bird of paradise - the sorry looking prickly pear is not seeming to be reveling in paradise. The bird of paradise gets to be about 8x8 ft, and is always a welcome bit of color among the desert brown. If ever there was an environment where you sometimes feel like you dropped in on a place in a parallel universe, this part of Arizona with its saguaro and many other types of cacti, is certainly a place like that. And the lizards...lordy! The ground seems to move with them!
