Or maybe I could sense the resistance setting. Resistance is set using a stepper motor. Maybe I could catch either the input to the motor, or its position.

Re: Looking for fitness information
That's interesting, but an approach I haven't seen yet.
They have: as the recovery is unpowered, they cut the metrics. So power is calculated per stroke, as is the forcecurve.
Magnetic is easiest: a hall effect sensor is typically used.
Re: Looking for fitness information
That is a tough one we haven't tackled yet: multiple drag settings. I had an issue with it (NordicTrack combines a magnetic resistance with air resistance, changing flywheel inertia), but we couldn't automatically detect it and change settings accordingly.
I modified the Rowing Engine quite a bit to be more robust, which has to be ported into the latest baseline. As we are still testing it, that may take some time. The alpha codebase can be found here: https://github.com/JaapvanEkris/openrow ... tion_As_Is
Please note the Alpha code won't function in the 0.8 branch yet, we first want tested algorithms before we start porting it to the main branch.
Re: Looking for fitness information
Thanks, everyone for the great information.
I have been using the treadmill at my gym approximately 4 times per week usually doing an interval program of 2-4 minutes jogging/running alternating with 2 minutes walking on an incline. I have been on this program for several months and have steadily been able to increase my speed on the running intervals to 7-7.5 mph. I felt very strong and fit.....
That is until recently....all of a sudden I can almost no longer even jog (at 5.5-6 mph) on the treadmill without feeling like I am going to literally fall off the treadmill. It almost feels like the treadmill is tilting laterally (even though it obviously isn't). It's kind of a feeling of vertigo.
The only thing I can possibly attribute this to is that about two weeks ago I had an inner ear disturbance (commonly known as airplane ear---kind of like nasal congestion but instead it is ear congestion or fullness that doesn't "pop" or go way---in my case it stayed for about two weeks). Anyway, this has since cleared up and the funny thing is when my ear was actively "congested" I was running just fine on this treadmill...but not anymore...
Anyway, I am very upset because my running/jogging on the treadmill gave me a great sense of accomplishment and was a great complement to my Cathe fitness program and now I can no longer safely do it;(

Re: Looking for fitness information
Take it slow on getting back on the machine. I hurt my biceps badly during Judo, and had to stop rowing for 4 weeks. I'm back to my rower for 6 weeks now, and my times are awfull when compared to April. But I'm moving and I decided this is a great time to work on technique as my drag is still at a minimum setting. But it is an uphill fight to get back where you came from.
Re: Looking for fitness information
im just starting back after an extended off period (2019 was my last serious erg session) and to be honest im far worse off than when i started erging in 2017. ok i had an arm injury late 2018 (partially torn bicep tendon) which put me off for a year. started back for a short time late 2019 then covid. now i have my own erg im back and suffering .
i cant use the treadmill very well. like you say it always seems like im falling over and i have to have hands on the rails even for walking. running is out of the question. not sure why its only the treadmill that i have an issue with. and i consider that i have very good balance.
