New Version of ErgData
New Version of ErgData
I saw somewhere that a new version of ErgData was in beta testing. Some new bells and whistles. Does anyone have insight on what those upgrades might be?

Re: New Version of ErgData
Pays to stay on the general release and not switch to a Beta version in a hurry.
If its not broken don't try and fix it.
I guess the next major progression is to roll ErgData and ErgRace into one App.

Re: New Version of ErgData
Well, someone has to test it otherwise they wouldn't be able to get feedback from normal users. And there are some issues to be fixed, for example that the current app won't record when put in the background. This is bad as I wan't my phone to display something else, like youtube to row along with a workout, during rowing.Carl Watts wrote: ↑May 14th, 2022, 9:08 pmPays to stay on the general release and not switch to a Beta version in a hurry.

Re: New Version of ErgData
Get a second device.
ErgData doesn't work well when using the PM5 with RowPro at the same time or even with Zwift and rowedbiker in the background it must be a common problem.
I ended up having to add hardware to my setup to solve all the problems

To resolve it, I switched to ErgZone. When using ErgZone, everything keeps working, even with Youtube, netflix or EXR in the foreground. In mobile apps, it is part of the application design to prevent a total application freeze when it is put aside (you have to create a background process for the data processing). It isn't rocket science, just one of the many design considerations of a mobile app developer.Carl Watts wrote: ↑May 15th, 2022, 5:22 amErgData doesn't work well when using the PM5 with RowPro at the same time or even with Zwift and rowedbiker in the background it must be a common problem.

Re: New Version of ErgData
I can't recommend ErgZone highly enough. I find it far more user friendly. Being able to build your session through an app, and save them as favourites, is ideal, as the PM5 definitely has its limitations.JaapvanE wrote: ↑May 15th, 2022, 5:37 amTo resolve it, I switched to ErgZone. Scouse, if I switch to ErgZone will I retain the data I have already accrued in ErgDat?Dangerscouse wrote: ↑May 15th, 2022, 5:42 amI can't recommend ErgZone highly enough. Are there any downsides to ErgZone?

Re: New Version of ErgData
All Ergdata is giving you is your logbook, so you'll lose that from Ergzone, although it does automatically log and verify all of your sessions to your logbook.fragandclear wrote: ↑May 15th, 2022, 1:49 pmScouse, if I switch to ErgZone will I retain the data I have already accrued in ErgDat?

When you start using Ergzone I honestly don't think there are any downsides. You can set a session exactly as you would on the monitor, but you can also add in target stroke rate and pace. If it's one you do regularly you just set it as a favourite and it will load it again really easily.
The best thing is that the final columns are interchangeable. For example they can be HR, HR zone, stroke rate, rest period (if doing intervals) calories, drag factor, watts, SPI, and quite a few others if you pay a small fee (drive, peak force etc).
I also love that it saves each individual specific session. For example, if you've done five 10ks, it will save the full details of each session based on the information rather than in date order.

Re: New Version of ErgData
All I'm really using ErgData for a verified row that has a massive amount of info that is easily synchronized with the comments to the Concept 2 online Logbook.
I have other options like to upload the result from RowPro or use the C2 Utility but its doesn't have as much information.
On the odd occasion that ErgData stops, I have to manually upload it using the C2 Utility.
The main thing for me is that I MUST get a verified row result uploaded.
I don't think anything other than ErgData also records the number of strokes and the drag factor in your LogBook.

ErgZone verifies your results too, records number of strokes and DF.Carl Watts wrote: ↑May 15th, 2022, 7:40 pmAll I'm really using ErgData for a verified row that has a massive amount of info that is easily synchronized with the comments to the Concept 2 online Logbook.

Stu already mentioned a lot of features, I also use another option that's not possible with PM5/ErgData: You can program pieces below 100m/20'' and adjust the splits for short pieces too (like a 1' with 15'' splits). Propably not relevant for most ergers but nice for sprinters.

Re: New Version of ErgData
Yes I find the 1 minute on the PM5 really annoying that you cannot change the splits to 20 seconds, 10 seconds or even 5 seconds if you wanted it.
I did e-mail Concept 2 about it a while ago, its a really easy change for them to make in the firmware but the result was crickets.
The whole splits option wants changing anyway so you can scroll down to all the possible options taking you out to the 52 maximum.

Re: New Version of ErgData
Massive amount of info wirh ErgData? That is a contradiction in terms. It doesn't even record time, distance and velocity with sufficient accuracy to do some analysis. For example to calculate a decent Distance per Stroke (ErgZone does, so the PM5 does calculate it). I am still using OpenRowingMonitor to calculate all the data to RowsAndAll that the PM5 calculates but doesn't record. More specific: things like Distance Per stroke, Drive Time, Drive Length and Drive Force aren't recorded. If you want more data directly from the PM5, I would use PainSled, although I doubt they can upload to Concept2 directly.Carl Watts wrote: ↑May 15th, 2022, 7:40 pmAll I'm really using ErgData for a verified row that has a massive amount of info that is easily synchronized with the comments to the Concept 2 online Logbook.

ErgData lets itself be put in the freezer when put in the background, so that is systematic when you use other apps.Carl Watts wrote: ↑May 15th, 2022, 7:40 pmOn the odd occasion that ErgData stops, I have to manually upload it using the C2 Utility.

Several apps can deliver a verified workout to the Concept2 logbook: ErgData can and EXR claims they can too (haven't tested that one yet). ErgZone just fills in the data it has, just like ErgData, but with more accuracy allowing beter analysis.
Why MUST you have a verified workout? To be honest, I like the Concept2 logbook but what changes when you only add verified workouts? I don't see any difference in the data that came through RowsAndAll (unverified) and through ErgData. Even Concept2 doesn't mind at the moment: I recently got my million meters shirt based on a mix of manually entered rows, unverified rows and verified rows. People can filter them, but who cares: it is my personal logbook and we are not in some race who had the best 2K time or longest distance. So unless you plan to row a World Record, I don't think anybody really cares.

Same as Carl, I would greatly prefer any distance on the rower to be verified. I'll give ErgZone a go today.

Re: New Version of ErgData
Well, I tried it for today's session and I like it.
Everything has saved on the Concept 2 log as described and I was able to watch my YouTube video for the whole session.
Very clean aesthetic and looks like it has lots of "community" options if that floats your boat.
