Concept 2 Erg - PM3
Concept 2 Erg - PM3
Hello.
Started to use a Concept 2 Erg at the local gym.
It has the PM3 so no Bluetooth functionality.
I want to save my rows via insertion of a USB stick.
What next steps are needed to format the USB stick correctly and then to save the rows?

Re: Concept 2 Erg - PM3
There's no USB stick support on a PM3. It only has the 32K I²C LogCard.
To read those at home you need a PM3, PM4 or an Omnikey I²C card reader.

Re: Concept 2 Erg - PM3
I think PM3 supports cable connection. So use a short USB A/B C cable and an OTG adapter for your smartphone to use ergData.

Re: Concept 2 Erg - PM3
OTG == On the go. That's an Android hardware cable that turns your phone with MicroUSB into a USB host rather than a USB slave. The other end of the cable has USB-B (printer style connector) that fits into the PM3. You're likely to be in a lonely group of "one user" if you go that way.

Thank you.
I do not use Android. I use Ios iPhone.
What is the OTG equivalent for the iPhone?

Re: Concept 2 Erg - PM3
Some PM3 do, but older model PM3 DO NOT. I found out the hard way at my gym, where I bought an integrated OTG USB-C to printer cable, and discovered it didn't work due to the wrong firmware version (see https://www.concept2.co.uk/service/soft ... quirements). Shouldn't the iConnectConcept2Cable be able to connect an Apple device with a PM3 (see https://www.concept2.co.uk/service/soft ... ios-device)?

You really would be better spending the money on a PM5 rather than that hideously expensive iPhone cable.JaapvanE wrote: ↑April 27th, 2022, 10:13 amShouldn't the iConnectConcept2Cable be able to connect an Apple device with a PM3 (see https://www.concept2.co.uk/service/soft ... ios-device)?

At a local gym? Not really.

Best stability and cable can be fixed at monitor arm.

Re: Concept 2 Erg - PM3
Chances are the firmware on the PM3 is to old or its the early version of the PM3 and the cable will not work.
Don't waste your money just get on the rower and use it and forget about getting the results or just write the result on a bit of paper, you can still manually enter it into your C2 Logbook.
If your serious get your own rower, the ones at the gyms are usually junk to row on anyway they just get trashed.

Re: Concept 2 Erg - PM3
PM3 has a USB-B connector (like a printer). I use the USB-B-A cable that came with it (and/or a printer) and a A-to-C adapter to plug it in to my laptop, on which I run the Concept 2 utility to copy/upload the entire logcard contents.
I don't use a phone app but I don't see why it wouldn't work the same.
I use the same setup for PM5 as well. It also has a USB-B port.

Re: Concept 2 Erg - PM3
The Android cable is 5 euros, so no big deal. But I bought a new C2 with PM5 last January, as it is much better maintenaned than my gym does.Citroen wrote: ↑April 27th, 2022, 11:21 amYou really would be better spending the money on a PM5 rather than that hideously expensive iPhone cable.JaapvanE wrote: ↑April 27th, 2022, 10:13 amShouldn't the iConnectConcept2Cable be able to connect an Apple device with a PM3 (see https://www.concept2.co.uk/service/soft ... ios-device)?
Re: Concept 2 Erg - PM3
I agree with Carl on this (although some folks say I'm a Luddite, so take it with a grain of salt). IMO a few seconds of writing will get you the key bits of information from your workout. This may sound snarky, but if you're so serious about rowing that you want a stroke-by-stroke breakdown, then it's probably time to get your own erg anyway.Carl Watts wrote: ↑April 27th, 2022, 1:40 pmjust get on the rower and use it and forget about getting the results or just write the result on a bit of paper, you can still manually enter it into your C2 Logbook.
Re: Concept 2 Erg - PM3
Thank you Ombrax.
I am currently living and working in the desert in Australia with very limited equipment or anything around. I have owned a C2E PM5 for around 7 years and this unit currently is located at my base residence in a major capital city, some 900km from where I currently reside. I am making do with whatever is currently availability in the only Gym in town.
Cheers
